Totally. The article also mentioned that this bullying was known school wide....I'm sure parents heard something about this through the kids. People need to step up and not let this sort of crap happen.......and add statutory rape to the mix and it makes me absolutely furious!

Oh, and I'd like to hear more on exactly why this girl was targeted....whether or not it had anything to do with her being an Irish immigrant. To me, if I remember High School mentality....it seems more fitting that she was new (regardless of her being Irish or not) to the school and had a brief relationship with a popular guy......the girls immediately targeted her out of jealousy and were relentless about bullying her. The two guys allegedly raping her.....I don't know how they would be in the mix of all of this. Sickening.

This pisses me off so much. How could people let this type of shit happen?

They could of done everything to raise them right, and this still happened.
I was raised when parents were responsible for their kids actions. These parents should be ashamed of their kids behaviour. Yes they may have done everything right but their off spring still caused a young girl to take her own life. I don't know about you but if I had a child who helped push this girl over the edge I would feel very ashamed.

I agree. Parents, as teachers, should be the example to follow. Of course if the parents are arrongant losers themselves there is not much good the sopn/daughter will learn from them. Thats when teachers should be present in their lives.

Teenagers are the cruelest life form on the planet. Used to be, a bullied kid could escape a little. Once you get home, you're safe. Not anymore. Cell phone texts, myspace and facebook barrages go on 24-7. Then more of the mob reads and joins in.

I would rather take a good ole' after school ass whooping ANY DAY over what kids today have to deal with.

Kids caught in a mob mentality bullying should be shipped off to a different school where THEY are alone. I hope they throw everything they can at these kids.

My kid was the target of a mob bullying situation. (They were FRIENDS of hers.) They hit the party age and she didn't want anything to do with it. So they turned on her. The school would do nothing. So I pulled her out of the school. That was freshman year of high school. She eventually reconnected with the little bitches and everything turned out okay. Still fries my brain that parents OR schools will do nothing.

I agree. Think of this also in regard to rumors about young girls and promiscuity. Back in the day if the new girl slept with a popular older guy and he was an asshole braggart about it, there would be whispers, maybe some bitchy behavior from the girls, even the proverbial writing on the bathroom wall. These days, the rumor would be all over the internet as soon as it happened. The shame factor is huge, especially if the girl just made a mistake, or worse, was forced into it.

I feel so sad everytime I think of this story, but I don't really think kids are any more "vicious" than other generations...maybe they just have more outlets for that cruelty to spread and incite even more cruelty?

This story has saddened me very much. I think kids are supervised less than earlier generations plus as Uno said, they have more access to communication whereas before it was note-passing, graffitti, and gossip.

But for this girl to get raped and no one did anything about it? (Please disregard my question...two of the boys involved are charged with statutory rape there are no details. My mistake, sorry)

Yep, the details are a bit gray still, but what a sad story.

But the BS that the school put out there that the administration doesn't know how to spot teenage bullying when it relates to dating, etc is just that: BS.

The kids are to blame no matter what. Every bully knows they're bullying, and they know it's wrong. It just seems that they were enabled (by non action, perhaps) in this situation and it just kept escalating.

Have they said whether the girl actually sought help from the school/administration?

The articles that I have found mention the charges against the two guys, but that is it. I jumped to conclusions.
