Is it safe on a night in Playa Del Carmen?

Hi

I'm staying in an all-inclusive resort (Riu Tequila) in Playacar on the Mayan Riveria. I know it can be some distance to walk in to Playa Del Carmen - does anyone know exactly how long? - but is it safe to walk on your own at night (me and my fiance) from Playacar to Playa Del Carmen? Also, can you stroll along the beach at night or is this not allowed?

We have been to Playa several times and we stay in Playacar. We walk into town and walk home at night every day. We've never had a problem. I've even walked home by myself at night- so has my sister.

Safety is always a hard one to advise on. Playa is not a particularly dangerous place and there's no need to take extra precautions when you're here. Just be smart, like you always should be. For me, being smart include taking a taxi home late at night. On the way to your hotel you'll pass some un-developed land with jungle and it gets very dark at night. It's a cheap insurance to take a taxi.
