You missed the best part of the drive (from Lake Forest on south)! If the weather is decent (as in somewhat under 115F + 99% humidity), we're going to take the kids down to NP for the fireworks on the 2nd - but we'll probably skip Bubba Gumps.

I've driven that several times... Just didn't have the energy this time, due in part to a massive hangover, and it was getting dark. Billygoat Tavern is down there too. $3.00 Cheeseburgers and the kids get nagged at by someone other than you...Kinda like Ed Debevics.

And we have a beautiful night for you. Please get out and enjoy it (it is bound to change at any moment)!

Edited to add: please go enjoy Taste of Randolph Street - some of the best restaurants in this foodie town are there and displaying tere best and brightest this weekend!

As a local I second Millennium park. You can find your open air concert there too. For free.

Has anyone mentioned china town yet? A favorite for us. Take the red line south and exit cermak.

After being awake for the best part of a day I decided to stay local.

There's a great bar across the street from the hotel called Snickers, pretty innocuous looking place that looks more like a greasy spoon from the outside but inside it was kicking, maybe due to the early kick off at the Cubs game. The two hot barmaids were a bonus!

Made the big mistake of getting the train into the city, and when we changed trains at Jackson we had half of downtown making their way to Wrigley Fields

Off to the beach today for a well deserved rest.

Awesome! The weather is so perfect here today, I spent the day at the pool. Hope your beach day was good. North beach or oak street or somewhere else?

We spent the day at Ohio beach probably the worst one in Chicago but it was the nearest!

Going to North beach tomorrow though.

Aw come on, it's not bad! It is just a little wet, you won't melt! And the rain is moving out, should be OK later on.

But in the meantime, we have some of the best museums in the world!

Walking distance from you is the Art Institute. Go to see the Seurat and Magritte, Van Gogh and Monet and the great collection of far eastern art.

A bit farther south is the "museum campus" with the Field Museum and it's T-Rex named Sue, the Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium with the Wild Reef, Amazon and beluga whales.

But my favorite is the Museum of Science and Industry, which is farther south. The current Body Worlds exhibit is freaking AMAZING!! Museum of Science and Industry | What's Here | Exhibits | BODY WORLDS and The Cycle of Life. You could cab it or ask your concierge about taking public transportation, there is a bus line that'll get you there.

Edited to add: For a museum that is definitely more offbeat, there is the Museum of Surgical science. They've got some freaky shit there - it is pretty wild, and not necessarily for the squeamish. https://www.imss.org/.

Lots to do! And if you don't make it to the museums today, keep them in mind as it looks like we have a chance of rain every day this week.

Buy an umbrella!

I agree about the museums, they would be my first recommendation.

Following that, if you are not in the mood for a museum, there is always the Lucky Strike bowling lanes right downtown. Quick cab ride probably.

Also, Navy Pier has an IMAX theatre if you want to catch a flick. Super 8 is playing now.

Now last night was fun.

Down Navy Pier when the rain hit, there were kids screaming everywhere.

OK it was over in 20 minutes and it was fun while it last..........well for the adults anyway.

Our last night and I have to say it's been great.

Willis Tower and boat trips definitely the highlights.

Thanks to everyone for some great info.

See ya in Playa tomorrow.

Quite the storm last night, wasn't it? I'm glad you've enjoyed our fair city. I love it, but I'm biased. It is nice to hear others find it as great as this native does.

Have a wonderful time in Playa.
