hotel lab nah / tequila
Hello everybody! I am going to Playa in March and have made reservations at Lab Nah and was wondering if anyone would be so kind to offer up some reviews... Location, how close it really is to the beach, general stuff. Can't wait to be there! This is the best site out there for Playa! Congrats to the responsible parties!!! Also, what is the best tequila around for the money? I love Patron and am sure there is even better to be had locally. Thanks to all who comment.

For your Tequila, you might make a note to try these, most are readily available at any bar in Playa, I stick to the anejos but reposados will also work for sippin... preferably ice cold shots :
Centenario- smooth as silk, not much after taste El Tesoro - very smooth and a little more herby taste than Centenario, I've got half a bottle in the freezer now and just before Christmas I was fortunate enough to buy a shot of a special reserve 12 year old Tesoro that may have been the best i've ever had and at $28, it was probably the last I'll ever have Don Julio - Has a little more bite and very herby taste, used to be my fav Herradura- Pretty tasty straight, but I use it for above the top shelf margaritas Porfidio - Choice!, smoky taste. but may be off the market, heard they had some legal trouble er something Chinaco anejo - Numero uno, you will have to look hard for this one on 5th ave, only a couple places will possibly have it (Tequila Barrell may have a bottle now).... aged four years in sherry barrels it don't get no better!!! Even people that don't like Tequila will dig this selection, very addictive and a cool bottle to boot! Search it out PS: Please don't drive on Tequila 8) |

sctx,
Thanks for all the great info! I have been a scotch drinker for years and enjoy a nice single malt and a cigar. As an enthusiastic newcomer to the world of Tequila - all I have sampled is Jose Cuervo "Premium". To be quite honest, I do not mind it but I would be interested in expanding my palate! Unfortunately, that and Sauza are all that is available from our local liquor stores so I am unable to sample other brands. How would you rate Cuervo and what in your opinion should be my next step for someone starting to aquire a taste for Tequila?? |

I personally avoid Cuervo, they do have house reserve thats not bad for sippin though. My guys bring me bottles of Cuervo gold from the border.... $1.15 a bottle!!! The "good stuff" above goes for about $50 in Texas
You can't go wrong starting with the suggestions above, I prefer to set the shot glass in a bowl of ice to chill it first... then bite of lime, sip, lime sip, lime, sip, lime, shot, lime, shot, lime, big shot, stagger, stagger, pass out @ playa Maya then start again the next nite ... but thats just my own style 8) Tequila doesn't mix very well with other liqours/wines/beer, thats where the bad Tequila myths start |

After a wonderful tequila lesson from James during BFE II, I headed to Chedraui in search of my favorite, Herradura. Being unable to find it (why can't they just put all the different tequilas together in one spot!), I settled for El Jimador; one of the three or was it four bottles James introduced to us. A bottle and a little sample bottle were together in a holiday package for about 120 pesos.
Like SCTX, I prefer to sip it while on ice with a lime. In fact, I do believe it is calling me now. Little hockey, little tequila, ahh Squish would be so proud that I'm not drinking wine. |

Here's the ambiance from tonight:
Snow falling down hard, El Jimador and Sol flowing freely with a fellow Avalanche fan, and the Avs just beat Florida. Only thing better would have been if we were beating up on a team from Vancouver! How's that for ambiance, Squish? Once again Squish and all your Canadian brothers, thank you for hockey and the Cowboy Junkies! (I'm sure there are some other Canadian contributions I should be thankful for, but those two are huge!) |
