parks in playa del carmen?
Hello, I'm wondering if there are any green spaces or parks in Playa del Carmen? We're a family of six (2 adults,4 kids) and we're into simple things like local museums or small parks. We will be avoiding all the huge tourist parks and attractions, except ,of course, places like Tulum and Chichen Itza. Also is there a good fruit market in town and are rose apples in season at the end of February?

parks in PDC
The beach clubs will be very entertaining for your family. When my grandson visited last year, he loved it at Mamita's which has a good pool depth for toddlers and small children, with a little playground as well.
There is also a nice park at Av. 35 and Calle 20/22 - just north of Constituyentes, west of Av. 30. There is a shaded playground, which is rare here, which includes teetertotters, a slide and swings. There is an aviary in Playacar as well, although the entry is about USD$8 per adult, don't know for children. Apparently it is very nice, but I haven't visited myself. Your family will also love Xcaret, lots of activities included once you've paid your entrance fees - a beach for snorkeling and swimming as well as two cenote swims that are done in life jackets, and many other attractions. The evening show is spectacular and you can leave for lunch or dinner and come back in. As a fellow Canadian and part-time PDC resident, I'd be happy to provide any other info that might help- just email me at: thepagesmx@hotmail.com Caroline Page |

Aviario
The aviary is a wonderful, peaceful oasis. It is in Playacar--not a bad walk from downtown. Just head south on Av. 10, through the Playacar gate.
It opens at 9 am, and that is a great time to visit. They raise toucans there, and if you sit quietly (in the large caged area) the toucans will come check you out. You'll also see macaws, flamingos, Yucatan jays, other birds, iguanas, geckos, and probably an agouti (rodent). |
