Southern Tour 2010

It was supposed to be sunny and 76 degrees today. What I want to know is, what happened??

It's cloudy and about 40. Hmmmmmm!

The gang members are due here for breakfast at around 8:00. Cheese Omelet, Home fries, facon (that's right, facon, the turkey stuff) and toast, with fresh coffee. Decaff for JA who turns into a tornado if you feed him caffeine.

The only plans made so far, aside from the above, include riding to Pittsford VT to say so long to our mechanic, Buffalo Bud, and then show up in Pine Forge PA for the night. Whatever happens between here and there will happen.

Gotta go cook breakfast.

Later

I spoke too soon (again)

It may have been 40 degrees when we left, but that didn't last long. My thermometer registered 94.7at one point. It was hot.
Made it to Pine Forge PA, first night's stop.
More later.

We rode from Pine Forge PA to Manassas VA without touching any interstate. Left at about 9:00 and got to Manassas at about 5:00 PM. All secondary roads.
There is a lot of beautiful countryside between there and here. Big farms, rolling hills, Amish wagons and sheds, horse poop in the road---. It was another 90 plus degree day, and we are all dehydrated at this point. Last night at supper, we drank 4 large pictures of water, and again tonight. But, We're all happy, healthy and rarin to go more.

In other words...boog si efil!

I hope you watched for the horse poop!

All I remember about driving in Pennsylvania was the traffic jams behind the Amish buggies and no shoulders on the VERY narrow highways and the houses came almost right up to the road...not very safe, it felt! But very picturesque and beautiful countryside.

Drive safely! boog si efil!

It's pretty nice all right. Everything is in bloom. On the way down, we passed honeysuckles that were impressively fragrant.

There were a bunch of Amish wagons. I snuck a pic of one, although I suspect that the people within don't like this much.

Didn't have to do a lot of watching for horse poop. It was pretty much all over.

Today we traveled from Manassas to Fields of Dan, just off the Blue Ridge highway. Again, managed this with no 4 lane slab riding. The riding was wonderful. 75 to 80 degrees and sunny all day. The bikes and humans are all running well. We spent the afternoon on the Blue Ridge. I am always impressed by this road. It's really almost another world.

Thanks. I'm taking many pictures, both on the bike and off and they will appear when I return. Too much hassle to do it on the road.

Today's Q-- we got the hell out of that motel as early as we could. We were all packed and on the road by 7:00. It was good to get fresh air, even though I could still smell fake pine for a couple of hours into the day. We headed straight for the BRP. It was cool and wonderful. We made it to Etowa NC by about 4:00, to C and J's house. They are almost fully recovered from last year's fiasco disaster. It's really good to see them again, laughing and happy.

Almost forgot---boog si efil!

The TR for today will, when written, be one of mostly pictures. We went up over Mt Pisgah to Maggie Valley for a visit to the Wheels Through Time museum. Y'all will be treated to numerous pics of old motorcycles in various states of repair, and pics of the BRP, which I never tire of.
Went to a Mex restaurant for dinner. It was a good'un. I had an avocado burrito which was too big to eat all at once. Lunch manana.

Can't say as I have seen those. Poor little frog. What did he ever do to deserve that?

We spent the day today riding around and going nowhere, We put on 180 miles today by going nowhere. We went up and down, and from side to side, and never actually went anywhere. What a great riding day. Spent the whole day riding just for the sake of the ride, no other reason.

Exactly. A day about nothing.

Today was about as good as it gets. Riding, followed by sailing, followed by more riding. C and J have a 25 foot sloop on Lake Keowee in Seneca, SC. It was a great day for sailing, and for riding
