list of local charities

ok, as i am reading some other threads i realize that there are probably charities in the area that many on this board are involved in that i don't know much about. is there a way we can get a list of some of the charities with a brief description of their missions, along with the information about what kind of help is needed by them? such as what type of donations can be made to them (food items, clothing, etc), who to contact if you have a donation or want to volunteer, what kind of volunteer man hours are needed and for what activities, etc? i used to volunteer about 20 hours per week in the u.s. and am feeling the need to get involved more around the area here.

just let me know if there is such a list i can look at, and if not we can create one here! thanks so much!!!

Great idea. I would love to compile a list one day. For now, on the homepage of my blog there are links to quite a few local and regional charities. Check it out!

www.helpmexicandogs.com

www.cocoscatrescue.org

This is Ricardo Pimentel's organization that helps dogs everywhere in the Riviera Maya. He works with Coco's Cat Rescue as well as Coco's has a Spay and Neuter Clinic. Currently, the "Tierra de Animales" (Animal Sanctuary) is being built and Ricardo welcomes anyone who wants to lend a hand!! Ricardo and Laura (from Coco's Cat Rescue) go to the pound in Playa del Carmen, visit schools, and rescue many animals all over the area.
Very worthwhile organization. Kelly & I work with Ricardo & Laura and cannot say enough good things about them.

Thank you for donating your time!!

Sos El Arca.

Every single morning Sylvie, the owner of Byblos restaurant, goes to la perrera in playa del carmen to clean the cages, give them food and water. TShe has rescued many many dogs, and give for adoption. They rent a house where they put some of the rescued dogs, and are also starting with a programm of pet therapy:

SOS El Arca - Asociacion sin Fines de Lucro en Playa del Carmen

They organize events for fundraising, but basically they use their own money and few donations, so everything is welcome. Sylvie is such a loving person, always kind to everyone and her heart is full of love for the most unwanted dogs, the ones of la perrera that get killed the 4th day of their stay there. She also buys the injections to give these poor animals a silent death, when they run out of it.

Any donation is more than welcome.

Thank you for this info, Anna. I would like to visit here during my next visit in March. I think it would be great if you would start a thread about them as I don't think many know.

I just sent her a message through that link you posted. Seriously Anna, it would be great if you would start a thread about this.

Yes, please, and add photos! I think it would be amazing to see her efforts. I cannot imagine going to the perrera every day.
