I'd like to share my memory of the Peanut Pet Shelter. I'm really more of a cat fancier but I like all animals wanted to do some volunteer work on our last trip to PdC. I knew Babaloo and he helped me out.

So I went to the Peanut Shelter on wash day. But it was DIP day. Stinky smelly dip. About 30-50 dogs always working for their pecking order in the pack. Sometimes barking like crazy. It may sound miserable, but IT WAS AMAZING.

First impression was Jen being so absolutely calm. Second was hearing Andy tell the dogs to "Shut up" in his Scottish accent. Sorry Andy but it amused me greatly. It was an incredibly masculine sound that produced almost zero results.

I gained a better understanding of dogs and am much more comfortable around them. No matter their quirks and rough history on the streets of PdC, they let us humans handle, bath and pick ticks without so much as a nip. As much as they are vying for turf and can be tough they ultimately want to be loved and cared for.

That trip included an inland road trip to Palenque. My photos of the Pet Shelter make me smile as much as the photos of the Temple of the Inscriptions.

I would love to read about YOUR day at the pet shelter... post on

I have to admit, even though I am a huge animal lover, especially dogs,I was a bit intimidated when I entered the shelter. After a few minutes of everyone saying hellos to the dogs, I relaxed and felt very comfortable there. I wasn't able to help wash, but I managed to sit and dry a few, and got in my share of snuggling It was this day that Miguel picked us to adopt him. Still a very happy memory.
I can't wait to go back next year!!
