Thumbs up First Timer to the Royal

My husband and I have been comming to PDC for about 10 years, but haven't been back in 3 years, due to me trying to get rid of kidney cancer, which it is now in my other kidney, enough said, but we decided to splurge this year, (I am feeling great) and stay at the Royal, we usually stay at Coco Bay, so that we can go in the summer and in the fall. Sooo, you can see the difference. I would like to know, if there is anything we should know. We have booked a Jr. suite and not real sure, after reading other post, if we should try and do the upgrade thing, if it is reasonable. I assumed when i booked this we would have access to all the resturants, I am so dissappointed! So please if you have any of you have suggestions, please let me know. I am so excited. We have stayed at the Porto Real twice, and really liked it, we stayed there when they started building the Royal, I told my hubby that I wanted to stay there someday, and here we are!!!!! We will be going down July the 24th-31st, if that makes any difference. Thanks to you all!......Joni

Congrat's on going to the Royal...if a view is important from the room, you might consider upgrading to a OV room...As far as the restaurant's, you have access to all but the chef's plate..No biggie in my opinion, and now it is for OF and higher..
There are dress codes at the restaurant's, this off another forum from a concierge at the Royal, Fernado Camacho..

Asiana is allowing starting Monday the 10th gentlemen wearing shorts and DRY, CLEAN beachwear until dinner time, let's say a little before 6:00 PM. From this time and on, men can only access the restaurant if they are wearing long pants (it can be jeans), a collar or a button down shirt (can be polo) and closed toe shoes.

This same dress code applies for "El Mediterraneo" at dinner time and it has been the same rule for Maria Marie's and the Chef's Plate for some time now.

The other 3 restaurants: Spice, Tapas, and Pelicanos while they remain casual for dinner, no tank tops or sleeveless shirts are allowed.

I hate to hear about a change in dress code at Asiana and El Mediterraneo. We were there last month and my husband was glad to be able to wear shorts, sandals and a nice shirt to Asiana. We loved Maria Marie's but felt like it was a drag for him to have to wear long pants and closed toed shoes for dinner and then have to go and change clothes afterwards to be comfy again.

Thanks

Thank you litenlarry for all the info, I'll take your word for it that the Chef's Plate isn't all that. I like an OV room, but it won"t Kill me if we don'y have one..Thanks!
