FRIDAY ~ DAY 6 ~

Today was another beach day, so I'm just going to post some pictures ...

the pool ...

the pier ...

the sea wall separates the marina from the beach ...

repairing the palapas ...

beach ...

Norb on beach ...

We decided to go into town for dinner. We took the bus again for 5 pesos, and walked around for a while. Puerto Morelos is small, so you can cover it in no time at all.

At the beach there was a fishing tournament ...

Lighthouse plaque ...

the leaning lighthouse ...

Pelicanos, a restaurant on the beach ...

We were headed to Hola Asia. We've been here before and the food is delish!

potstickers ...

We ordered General Tso chicken, and it was yummy!

We took the bus back to the El Cid and visited the lobby bar before saying good night.

Tomorrow ... meeting our Cancun friends for lunch!!!

SATURDAY ~ DAY 7

Our last day ...

I had asked our amiga, Cancun Becky, if she wanted to meet us in Puerto Morelos while we were there, and she said yes, Saturday would work for her.

She suggested a restaurant, La Panza es Primero. So we were going to meet her at 12:30.
We had invited Michelle to come along, too.

I checked my email in the morning just to make sure our lunch date was still on, and Becky had said she was bringing a surprise ... Susan and Kim!

(though, technically, it's not a surprise if you tell me )

So after breakfast and hanging around for a while we took the bus into Puerto Morelos again. We got there early because I had a date with that t-shirt store guy.

I walked in to the store, picked the shirt I wanted, and again he said $18.00. I reminded him that last night he said $10.00.

He said OK, and we wrapped up the deal.

The fishing boats of Puerto Morelos ...

We went to the restaurant, and Michelle was waiting. The restaurant is right on the beach, the breeze was wonderful!!! The view was beautiful!

Soon our Cancun Amigas arrived!!! We were so happy to see them again!

But first ... drinks and ...yum!

Becky, Norb and the back of Michelle's head ... but LOOK AT THAT VIEW!!!

Susan, Kim, Becky ...

We love these 3 Cancun Chicas ...

I don't remember what everyone ordered, but I've been told it involved cheese and spinach, and it was DELICIOUS!

The view from the restaurant ...

Families on the beach ...

Looking in the opposite direction ...

We all enjoyed the food, and we would definitely go back to La Panza es Primero.

What a great day!!!

After our 3 1/2 hour lunch, the waitress came over and said, "GET OUT!!!"

No, just kidding! She was very sweet and a great waitress!

We walked back to the town square, and reluctantly said goodbye to our dear friends, and got the bus back to the hotel. See ya next trip!!!!

Back at the El Cid we lounged on the beach for a while before dinner ...

After dinner at the buffet we stopped at the lobby bar where our favorite waiter was always attentive ... here's Edgar ...

Then, too soon, it was time to start the dreaded packing ...

SUNDAY ~ GOING HOME ~

We were being picked up by the Apple van early, so we had a quick breakfast in the lobby buffet restaurant.
A mimosa for the road ...

The van was right on time, we made one stop to pick up another couple, and then it was off to the airport.

No problems checking in or going through security, and we had time to shop and get a quick snack.

Arrived home on time, sad and depressed that our vacation was over, but the laundry, mail and grocery shopping kept me occupied for a few days.

Would we stay at the Marina El Cid again? Probably not, but not because of any complaints with the hotel. It was a very nice all-inclusive family resort.

But there are hotels we like better due to location.
The Marina El Cid is isolated, and you need the bus or a taxi to go into town.
And Puerto Morelos is a very small town with nothing to do in the evenings.

In my opinion all-inclusive food is boring after a few days, and we like to go to different restaurants for dinner.

We only went to one evening show at the hotel, it was a magician, and he was entertaining.

The shows were outdoors by the pool, not in an airconditioned theater with drink service, like most resorts.
Sitting outdoors at 9 p.m. in the tropical heat means mosquito bites, and we got plenty!

 [/size]
What I'm trying to say is ... I'm a Playa girl at heart.
If it wasn't for the extreme heat we would have spent much more time in Playa.

I did have a complaint with the hotel, albeit a minor one. When our travel agent booked this trip she told them we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary.
When we arrived at the hotel the girl at check-in said, "Oh, I see you're celebrating your anniversary." Then she asked if we wanted to upgrade our room for an extra $100.00 a day...... uh, NO! ...

When I went to the concierge to make a dinner reservation at the specialty restaurant he said, "Oh, I see you're celebrating your anniversary."

AND THAT WAS THE END OF IT!

The hotel definitely knew of our celebration, but neglected to honor it in any way.

Now I don't feel like I'm entitled to any special treatment, but when we stayed at Secrets Capri during our anniversary we were given flowers, chocolate covered strawberries and a chilled bottle of wine.

It's the little things that make you want to return to a hotel, and recommend it to your friends.
So we were a little disappointed that nothing special was done for us ...

BUT, AS ALWAYS, WE HAD A WONDERFUL TRIP, BECAUSE EVERY TRIP TO MEXICO IS WONDERFUL!!!

Until next trip ...

GOODBYE BEACH ...

WE'LL MISS YOU ...

Another great trip report, janied, thanks for sharing!

We've stayed at my family's 2 bedroom condo/timeshare at the Marina El Cid in Mazatlan before, which was very nice. So when we saw this Marina El Cid being built a few years back we drove by, wondering if it would be like the one in Mazatlan.
I don't remember there being an AI option in Mazatlan, maybe there was (?)....
Anyway, it did seem a little out of the way as well (in Puerto Morelos).

We often stop for lunch in Puerto Morelos on our way back to the airport, and it's a very nice little town. But Playa is our favorite, too....

Very nice trip report! The hotel seems like a nice one to stay with young kids. We want to bring out kids to Mexico sometime. WE have been there twice and many cruises. Can't wait to go back. Maybe this winter . . . .

One more thing....when you go in the ocean there, is the ocean floor rocky or sandy? I know you said there was a lot of sea grass. Just wondering how swim-able the ocean is in front of the hotel. Thanks~
