Skeeters Secrets Maroma
I'm a newbie so don't pick on me
![]() We are headed to SMB in a few days and I was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny the mosquito rumor I've heard about. I know it's surrounded by the jungle and they can't spray because the land is protected so I would assume the bugs get busy after dark. I also heard that the repellent bought in Mexico is better/stronger than in the states. If so, what brand of spray should I get and where to buy. Gracias |

There are always mosquitos around in the summer, not just at Secrets but all over the area. Especially true now since it was rather wet a few weeks ago.
I'm sure they have bug spray for sale in the gift shop so if you want "Mexican" bug spray, just pick it up there. If you want to bring your own, I dunno - bug spray is bug spray to me so just buy anything I guess - although something with DEET is best. |

Definitely, just bring something from home with DEET. We bought the Mexican brand Autan once but it did not seem to work any better than regular old Off from home. We usually just bring one of these, it is small and packs easily.

This is about as big and aggressive the mosquitoes are in our part of the world.
![]() First time we went to Playa, we encountered some of the tiny local variety. I thought, "What the Hell are these? Training mosquitoes, or mosquito wannabes?" But them buggers are on steroids or something. They bite! |
