Loving the forums!

Howdy folks! I've been creeping the forums for some time so I thought I'd join and introduce myself.
My wife and I are heading to PDC on the 16th of this month and so far this forum has been invaluable. Neither of us have ever been to Mexico at all and I have never actually been out of Canada. We are both very excited and have been counting down "sleeps" for the last two months.

So thank-you to all who have helped us out so far without realizing you have.

Thank-you all very much for the warm and friendly welcome!
We are staying at the GRP platinum suites. Read everything there was to read and thought to H E double hockey sticks with it, sounds like a great place for first timers. Should be lots of staff around to hold our hands so we dont get lost.
I do have one question if anyone has any experience with them, I have heard that the electrical in the room only works when your room card is in a receiver of sorts, I have also heard that you can use an ordinary gift card to get by this, any truth to that ruhmor?

I figured that out by accident on my last trip. I slid in a generic plastic card. It worked. I used an old hotel key from an airport hotel that was in my travel bag. Something you won't mind losing if the maid pulls it out. I always leave tips for the maid so I think she was fine with it.

Have FUN down there!

I have seen those cards, our room in Cuba had one of those. It was not a big deal, we used it as it was intended to be used.

I think usually they do it because the A/C sucks a LOT of electricity which is quite costly- and they would rather people not leave it on when they are not in the room.

Have a great trip!

Now, off to the "how much cash" and "pesos vs dollars" threads if I can find them. (I read the forum rules, can you believe it?!?!?!)

Oh you make me out to be an energy thief. No really! What happened was we were gone most of the day and the room was roasting when I went back to it. The girls had the other keys and I was headed out to meet up with them. At the last minute I thought "Hmmmm. I wonder... So I pulled the key and the AC shut off instantly. I looked in my wallet and SLID IN MY DRIVERS LICENSE. The AC came right back on. So I found a suitable (disposable) replacement card. I wouldn't do it if we were going to be gone for hours. It was nice for brief absences though!
