I* rooms

If I remember correctly, the Tucan's buildings are numbered 1-11. Eleven is situated parallel with the beach and there's an extra charge for it. We were in building 10. We had no ocean view to speak of, but were only about 30-40 feet farther from the beach than #11.
I guess it depends on what you like. The higher numbered buildings are close to be beach area and the lower numbers are closer to the lobby and main dining area.
Buildings 7, 8, and 9 were closer the the "jungle" area and often had monkeys scampering about the balconies.
I may have my Iberostars mixed up, but I think the Quetzal buildings were 12-22, with 22 being closest to the beach.

Our Tucan rooms

Was at the Tucan in Nov. with anoter couple in Nov. We had 2 rooms in building #5,Non-smoking building. You can smoke outside on the balcony. The rooms were at the end of the marble walkway right past the buffet and at the beginning of the jungle. We got to see the monkeys early every morning (heard them first). We were kind of in the middle between the lobby and the beach. We loved the location and plan on asking for the same rooms for our next visit. Hope this information is helpful.

Tucan

We were at Tucan in Nov. We had upgraded to a junior suite, which I thought was building 12 and that faces the ocean / beach. You are approx. 20 - 30 yards from the ocean / beach. Pool was closer than that. The smaller numbered units are closer to lobby & buffet. Would definately book a junior suite again.
