way into it

The further away from 5th avenue you are the cheaper the food is. There are some really great restaurants in PDC off the main tourist areas. I alway ask a local for some suggestions and they have sent me to some good places with great food for a real good price. Also if you have a small food budget, the street vendors are good. Taco, Tortas, Hotdogs , hamburgers are all good. Cheap and filling. A lot pf people will tell you not to eat from the street vendors, but in my many trips to Playa it hasn't killed me yet.

comida corrida for lunch rules.
Try Makech, right in the tourist zone on 1st street south (parallel to Juarez, one block south) near 10th. I think they even have pozole on Thursdays. Authentic lunches with rice, beans, main course, and a fresh fruit drink all for about 30 or 35 pesos. OR las cacerolas between 4th and 6th on 15th ave. also yummy homemade comida corrida. OR a half chicken with beans rice and cabbage salad for 25-35 pesos at the various asaderos and rosticerias on 4th street between 20 and 25th or 2nd and 25th or any of three on 10th ave.
