Buenaventura-Puerto Vallarta
Wow... Well.. We have spent the last 10 days in Puerto Vallarta Mexico at the Buenaventura Resort and Spa, which is located on the SouthSide (older and more traditional) Puerto Vallarta. We have been to Playa several times and my husband decided this year that we needed to venture out and try somewhere else, so this was our destination.
My first thought upon landing and driving toward our hotel was OMG, what did we do!!! The South side of PV is very Old time mexico and very local is the best way I can explain this side of town, which I thought was what I wanted and why we booked Buenaventura, but I was really getting worried.... We finally pulled up to Buenaventura and it was a beautiful resort, thank goodness!! I don't think I took any pics of it but you can check it out on their page...oh.. I do have pics of our room and will post them. Our travel rep told the hotel that it was our 14 year anniversary so when we arrived in our free upgraded room, an ocean front with a jacuzzi overlooking the ocean there was a plate of chocolate covered strawberries with drizzled chocolate that said "Happy 14th Anniversary".. Very sweet!!! how do i upload pics..???? uhh....

After checking out our room we started walking toward the Malecon, which is South from our hotel. I will have to tell you that I was almost in tears becuase I was just so disappointed, it wasn't Playa and we were so used to Playa, that first day in PV was very disappointing... but as the second days walking got us further into the neighborhoods, we really started enjoying ourselves.... a few pics...

We did get brave enough this year to actually take the bus this year, that was quite a ride, lol...At least it was cheap, 7pesos, can't beat that!!
We got onto the bus the first time, like on day 3, in attempt to go to the Zoo. We missed the stop (especially since there are no signs and no warning at all, lol...) But we ended up in this little fishing village that was really awsome, we down a hill of stairs to get to the village and there was a great beach and then we ate at this little local place on the beach, it was wonderful!!! ![]() This is a desert tamale... corn tamale desert, was kinda thick and very sweet, unusual...: ![]() No exlplanation needed here, just delicious!! yumm.. ![]() another pic of the desert tamale; ![]() And Fajitas... Such a great meal.. what a wonderful accident it was finding this village... one of our very best days!!! ![]() Us with full bellies... ![]() |

This was the older woman who cooked our meals at the fishing village... I just can't believe how old some of the women are in this area who are still working their butts off... really made me realize just how lucky some of us are...
![]() Rental properties in the village: ![]() The restaraunt in the village: ![]() Something hanging from one of the trees in the village: no idea what it is... ![]() then the stairs back up the hill to the bus stop... uhhh.....

The second time we rode the buss we got off again at the wrong place... ( By the way, did you know that you can cram 100 people on a bus built for 30 people... i didn't lol)
We saw this little guy on the side of the road and he tried to hide from us... ![]() Then these rocks where people were snorkeling: ![]() Then we walked up the mountain, curving, two lane roads Dodging traffic until we got to the road to the zoo again, whew..![]() We walked back up the street to the little village before the zoo and ate at "Juan and Only"... ![]() This was the very best meal i had the entire time!! For less than $20 we each had 2 Modelo Especials and we both had a gigantic burritoe, a salad and chips and the very best salsa I've ever eaten in my life... what a great accident to end up here!! |
