gotta have it
|
Hi, I will be at the Mayan Palace Feb 16-23 and the weather forecast does not look good at all. What do you do around PDC for fun when it rains?...besides going to bars to watch the Winter Olympics....which I could do here...any suggestions appreciated.

You could go to Actun Chen and take a tour of the caves. Or you could visit the Bird Aviary in Playacar and go shopping in Playa del Carmen. For the most part it does not just rain all day. Usually you get a strong rain shower and than it clears up again and the sun comes out. Another thing we found out over the years is that it might rain in Playa del Carmen but it is sunny in Akumal or Tulum. If you have a rental car just drive up or down the coast and you will most likely find sun. We went to Chichenitza on a rainy day before and when we got there it was sunny and hot. We also have visited Coba on a rainy day and it was fun. Or you could take the ferry over to Cozumel and go snorkeling. We snorkeled in the rain and even so the colors are not intense you still see a lot and who cares if it rains since you are already wet. Somehow we never had a problem finding something fun to do no matter how the weather was!

Time for me to get in on this one.
We've had a few little rain showers for a couple days. Still we are having a very dry season. But first we went to the actual ruins of XelHa and walked back and looked at the paintings. First time for me there. It was really cool to go way back in the trails that wind around the big cenote there. Jungle trails are fantastic here. Then we swam back in Cenote Manati and saw two eagles, pelicans, heron, and others. Extreme cave snorkeling in the back is way cool. We had a picnic lunch at ChikinHa on the way home, some more jungle trails and cenotes, and now we're off to dinner in town. It's nice having family visit to give you the option of turning a Tuesday into a holiday.

James! How can we get to the extreme cave snorkeling. My kind of thing. Did some of that in Belize and Nochoch Tunich is not bad either. However, the crystalized skeleton of a woman that had been given to the Mayan Gods in the Actun Tunichil Muchnal Cave was way cool and way creepy. That cave was for sure extreme and not for the not so sporty, scared type.
