Types of fish near the shore of Playa?

So we went to the beach today and in the water right off 5th ave we saw what could be described as a worm. It was not a worm though. It was skipping on the top of the water and very fast. It was green and about 1inch thick, and 7 inches long. We lost track of it.
What could this be? What would be in the water near the shore?

Did it have a line coming out of it's mouth that led to a rod being held by a person?

I believe those are call needlenose fish. You can see the around the shoreline looking for smaller fish. But when they jump or skip out of the water, they are avoiding a bigger predator.

I check the picture it didn't look like that, and these were very tiny, I don't think it could eat any fisher smaller than itself.

I have heard these needle nose fish referred to as ballyhoo as well. I don't know if this is correct or not though. In the water they do have a greenish back out of the water they don't.

I am betting heavily on needlefish too, like this pic...they are very prevalent and usually found near the surface.

They are white/silver....I am not sure why this picture of this needlefish makes it look greenish, maybe it is at night?

I just thought it was funny, I found this greenish looking one when I did an image search and the OP said the thing she saw was greenish.

Don caught one once fishing that was huge! Scary teeth on those suckers, you have to handle them very carefully.
