To rent or not to rent

All-

Working on finalizing our trip into Playacar and can pick up a rental car for 20$ a day. Has anyone rented and is it worth it? My wife is against it and I am for it.

As always, thanks for your input.

Shiv

If you want the freedom to travel around with ease. Rent it.
If you are staying in town - taxis and walking rule. No need for a car.
$20 a day? Insurance included?
Beware of who you rent from and avoid potential rental scams.

We would rent the roller skate from Hertz in Cancun. I think wifey and I need ot settle on our agenda a little. I am all for exploring (zip lines, cenote swimming, ruins tours) and I think she wants umbrella drinks and beach lounging.

We settle in Playa then rent a car. Fun to take day trips! Like Rick said, if you are staying put in Playa then there is no need to rent.

Roller Skate?

we usually just rent a car for the day as we need it, but usually only end up renting for one day and use that day for exploration.

We've done both. We prefer to rent, because we like to take day trips. But it is just a matter of preference.

Ha! ok....yep, that'd be easy to parallel park. Maybe not so much with knees wrapped around the steering wheel though.

man for 20 bucks a day, it is worth it to have a car
gives you the freedom to do what you want to do when you want to do it

if you do drive in playa, just beware of people who ignore stop signs

Yeah, you need to decide together whether you're gonna explore or stay put or do a little of both. We do a little of both and rent a car b/c we get it at the airport, which allows us transportation to and from the airport. Some days it just sits in the garage, but it's nice to know if we decide to take a stroll down to Tulum at the last minute, we just hop in the car and go. If you do rent a car and use it to go into town, be careful where you park. We watched a guy on a motorcycle crash right into a parked car the other night. We always park in the lot on 15th Ave. between 6th and 8th St. It's cheap and your car will be safe.

We have never rented a car. We explore using the public transportation and count that as part of our experience. We stay on Calle 4 an 30 Ave where walking to pick up buses, taxis, collectivos are no problem.

That's how we feel about renting ...
We love the freedom of having a car to explore up and down the coast. Thinking now about where our next side trip/road trip will be when we are there in December....
It's really just a matter of preference but we like to just hop in the car and go when the mood strikes us.
