At roughly 11AM Friday AM, 14 Peeps descended on Los Olivos. 2 Peeps were already there (syl and John, because their casa was party central), and 3 more came later. This report is going to start off all polite and mellow, but trust me, it will liven up.

syl was an absolute organization machine and setup a couple tastings for us and ordered lunch and had water/plates/napkins for all of us. I am hauling the cooler of water (not beer, likely to the dismay of Lucy's Michael and their friends) into Rusack winery.

None of us applied.

Wine guru Roni reading the wineries tasting notes.

MikeW is smiling big despite little sleep the night before. He and BonnyW shared a tasting at this winery as MikeW was being the responsible driver, and Bonny frequently scolded him for tasting more than his alloted share. Note his t-shirt.

The dude in the wine was the one who would pour our wines and tell us what we were drinking.

We got this glass free with our tasting. We intentionally left our glasses with syl, having confidence that she will put them to good use.

Here is the view from where we were having our tasting. Just gorgeous.

A few Peeps tasting wine.

Here is a broader shot of our tasting area. It was a very beautiful outdoor setting. I think the overall consensus was that the wines were pretty good, but also somewhat pricey. That didn't stop syl and I from ordering a bottle of the Syrah after our tasting so that we could indulge a bit more.

Ruben and Denise with Michael playing around.

Next up..the Uno's arrive and Volk Winery.

Thanks, although we took 500 pics on this trip, so of course you are seeing only the best ones. We aren't always photogenic!

For about 1 mile before we died! Incredible hills out there.

As my "PI male I would date if I had to date a PI male", you are going to get jealous a bit later in the repot when you see some pics of Uno and I.

I'm not the jealous type, AND man crushes aren't exclusive. It's in the rule book somewhere...

And the feeling's mutual about the "PI-male-dating-thing"

At precisely 1PM (syl had us on a much needed schedule), we departed Rusack and returned to her syl and John's house to pick up Uno and Colleen. Although I had never met him before, I gave Uno a big hug. We had discussed it awhile back on Heather's International Hugging Day thread, so I decided to go for it. He hugged me back. Uno is one of my favorite Peeps, as are most in this trip report.

We then made our way to Volk winery. A very scenic but windy drive there. John did an excellent job driving so that I did not vomit.

Here are the ladies looking at flowers, because I guess that is what ladies do.

Bonny and Kathy, happy to be looking at flowers.

Lucy's clan. I largely posted this pic, because if you look closely, you can see a Miller Lite bottle in Michael's hand. They were having Miller Lite in between each winery stop. I was impressed. They never did mention if Miller Lite goes better with Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon.

Mike W discussing something other than flowers. He appears to be listing something. Maybe he was counting the times that I beat him in fantasy football last year (twice). syl wanted to take a pic of last year's championship game fantasy football combatants so we obliged.

TG climbed into Volk's rafters to get a pic of ou group and our private tasting area. I think the consensus was the Volk had some good wines which were again on the pricier side, but that we enjoyed Rusack's outdoor setup much better. I enjoyed myself though, and was only a bit disappointed that they wouldn't sell me a single glass of wine afterward.

After Volk, the syl's, the W's, and Sol returned to syl and John's, while the rest of us went to Firestone. As there were 13 of us, and the wineries don't like groups of more than 8, Lucy's crew gladly sucked down some Miller Lite in the parking lot for a few minutes so that we could enter separately. When tasting in Firestone, I pulled out my wine distributor card (I am the Tasting Panel Chief for a distributor in Minnesota), and the W's, the Uno's, and TG and I got fantastic service. Lots of extra pours, including nicer stuff, free tastings (normally $10), and 30% discount on purchases. A great tour of some nicer wineries, thanks much to syl for setting it up and for the folks who volunteered to drive!

Next up...Friday evening festivities, things start to get a bit more rowdy.

Nice start JG! Colleen is sleeping so I can FINALLY get on and post! We are in northern ca for one last night before heading home. To the crew... That was a most awesome trip. I haven't had so much fun in a long long time.It was worth every mile of the drive. I would do it once a month if I could. And JG and I will always have our "special" Solvang walk to remember.I'll let you wait for that part. You won't be disappointed.Time for a beer and sleep.
