Post Vacation Blues.....
So I returned from my perfect vacation to Playa two days ago and it sucks. Having not been on a real vacation with the wife in over 10 years (married at 20 & 24) the trip was well deserved but man it's tough to get back in into the swing of things.
I almost feel depressed? Weird? Any of you feel like this when you returned? |

Even if it's 2 years away. Then you can start thinking about what you didn't do this time. Works like a charm.

I understand, but I feel vacations and time away are very important not only for your well being but for your marriage! Like Uno said you can do Playa for a lot less than the Royal (that is where you stayed right?), and you will have just as fabulous of a time. Spend lots of time here and you will learn all the ins and outs of doing Playa on the cheap. Start a vacation fund, put whatever you can in there. If you are anything like me, I spend a lot of money on BS that could go toward a nice trip. Anyway, I'm just saying don't give up!

Yup. The way I cured that was booking my next trip 6 months later. And, as you can see, I'll be back 3 times this year (but to Cozumel for diving).
Without diving, we can do the whole trip, the 2 of us, hotel (non a.i.), air, food for about $1800. Of course, it's been a while since we did it without diving so my calculations may be off. |

I can relate too. We go to Playa twice a year but I won't be making the winter trip with my family next winter and when I left the beach a couple weeks ago I had tears in my eyes. We trained our son well when he was little. He has chosen Mexico over Disneyworld every year!

You're not alone! It's always a bit of a bummer after we get back from vacation
. But even more depressing is planning trips that didn't happen. We've had two of those in the past four years. Had to cancel a 10 day souther Carribean Cruise due to a family health emergency and then cancelled a trip back to Puerto Morelos last year at the last minute due to the H1N1 crap. ![]() Keeping my fingers crossed that no hurricanes or severe tropical storms pop up between now and the first of October.

Here is a little story...We didn't take vacations when we were first married and after we had kids, seemed like we could never afford it. So we were talking to my in-laws one day and they were encouraging us to take the kids to Disney, think the boys were 7 & 10. So anyway we planned a trip and scraped together the money and went.... well we had such a good time! The kids loved Disney and more than that LOVED the time there that we spent as a family. I remember my youngest walking hand and hand with his dad and at one point my husband said to him, "you can walk a little ahead Colin, you don't have to hold my hand" (we were in a pretty safe non-congested place then). Colin looked up at my husband and said, "no dad, I don't want to let go of your hand, I like it that you are here" From then on we vowed that we would take a family vacation every year, didn't have to be Disney or someplace expensive... but we would get away as a family for at least a week. And we have done that. My boys are now 20 & 23...where do the years go? The time you spend with your family is precious and they grow up so fast! |

Wheels,
The best cure for that is to plan another trip even if it just a long weekend or a Fri to Sun if you can't take time off work. I find planning inexpensive camping trips within a hour or two from my house gives me that change of scenery that I crave. It is a cheap mini vacation to be somewhere else for a few days exploring someplace new. It would be a good family adventure. Even a day trip to another city is a good diversion, pack a picnic and make it a road trip. That might lighten your mood and give you something to look forward to in the short term. Take advantage of the long weekend holidays too to get away without too much time or money commitment. Re: Playa As others have said, a return trip to Playa can happen much sooner than later if you don't go with an AI. Many well reviewed small hotels can be had for as little as $50 USD a night or even less. All you need is a cheap AirTran or other airfare from Mass and a few nights at a cheap hotel and you can get your fix. |

My daughter & I go through withdrawal when we leave Mexico...& I thought it was just us.
Although we did Disney a couple times, the kids have fonder memories of their Playa trips. Plus even at all-inclusives Mexico comes out cheaper than a Florida vacation. |
