Even though they are officially shutting down tomorrow, me thinks that might be due to no concessions reached with any of the unions (they have been a problem in the negotiations).
I can see the shut down, and then early next week new and existing investors taking over that will be able to revive the airline quite quickly without the union liabilities.......happens all the time in a restructure..
I'm from a redneck part of the world where unions are not much admired, including myself

Depending on contract negotiations they (crews) would have gone on strike if there is an impass. When an airline is in chapter 11 the union contracts most times become null and void. At least that's how it usually works with US based unions. An airline doesn't normally "shut it down" just because of employee pay. Me thinks Mexicana has/had financial problems for quite a while....

They are toast, and I am screwed.

I have people leaving IAD on MX in two days, and countless others that I can't even deal with yet.
It's gonna be a long night, and a longgggggggg weekend. This sucks!

This is so sad! I came to know the flight attendants on my Chicago to Cancun flight over the years & some ticket agents as well. It's sad to know so many will be out of jobs!

Also, Mexicana was almost always the most reasonably priced for many years. I thought their service was fabulous!! Ugggg...they also were the cheapest for pet transport!! What a shame!

I will be on hold (as I am right now) for the next week. The people leaving in two days, I can already see - they can not go - there is NO alternative for the air portion of the trip. The least expensive flight is over $1,000/pp. They paid $315/pp for their air and yes, THEY would have to pay the difference between the cancelled flight and the new flight. If I ever get off of hold, I have the extreme displeasure of calling these people and telling them that they are NOT going on vacation. They're getting a full refund, but when all you really want to do it go on vacation, well.......

Oh, and anyone not booked with bulk/contracted air via a tour operator is not getting a refund from Mexicana. You will have to do a charge back on your credit card. The one teeny tiny good thing about this is that ALL of my reservations are bulk/contracted fares so Mexicana doesn't have any of my client's money.

i am bummed, too
they were my go-to airline, i didn't mind paying a few more bucks and most of the time they had the lowest fare anyway
