Seems to me, something looking rather like this showed up at our last Sun Fortune get together.

It stared rather accusingly, but we took little note of its opinion, and didn't let that slow us down very much. Disapproving gaze aside, it tasted just fine.

Okey dokey then Peeps. Just had a note from our culinary consultant. She would like an indication by October 4th of where we'll stand as far as numbers go for our Sun Fortune get together. She has to be out of town for a couple of weeks before the Peep Meet, and wants to be sure we have enough seating arranged for everybody to be comfy before she leaves. Last time, we ended up being a bit "chummy" around the table. I got a chop stick in the eye, and elbows in the ribs several times. So, we have to have an idea of how many intend to tie on the feedbag October 23rd. As this is written, we have 12 folks that have said they plan to attend. Any additions to the group shown in the initial post? The more the merrier, and there will likely be a little room for adjustments, but we'd like to know what to expect. Marj, Btodd, Lady Di, Lite, Laurelbay, anybody else from Winnipeg, or the surrounding area? We'd love to see you.

Sounds to good to miss. I'm sure I could talk Rob into going but he has an allergy to crustations (shrimp etc). Do you think that would be a problem?

Jmac is right. Mrs. B is deathly allergic to shrimp to, and she has never had a difficulty getting plenty to eat at Sun Fortune. Shrimp dishes may well appear - they're so popular - but just say no. There seems to be no problem with other things being cooked in proximity with shrimp either, which can be a concern as well. Rob should be fine.

Having watched Sunco separate the shellfish from the rest of the food a few times now, in fluent Chinese, I can't imagine there would be any problem. Just let her know about it when you arrive and appropriate dishes will appear. Mrs. B. has successfully survived both dim sum and Sun Fortune Peep Meets under Sunco's watchful eye.

I, on the other hand, have typically eaten everything in sight at these events and could probably benefit from some food restrictions, now and then.

I can dig it. After a meal in a restaurant one time, I had sort of an upset stomach. Went to the quack, who asked what I had eaten. I told him I had enjoyed scallops for the first time, among other things. He said, "The scallops were good, where they?" I replied, "How do you know when they're good?" He said, "Well, when you took them out of the shell, did they look and smell okay?" I responded, "You're supposed to take them out of the shell?" Who knew? (They were pretty crunchy.)

Absolutely, Marj, as long as we let the restaurant know about the allergies, it should be fine and there are a lot of other dishes to pick from, he won't go home hungry.

Talking Flashback to January 2009

A stroll down memory lane for those who aren't hungry enough yet.

Well, I discovered this morning even a 90 minute workout is not going to completely atone for the excess of last evening!

But, the food and the company were terrific and well worth it! The food was just excellent! As 'official photographer', I'll apologize in advance for my failure to capture every dish. These peeps were a hungry lot, me included, as you will see.

Candace and her team at Sun Fortune really rock! The place was packed all evening and they had everything under control. Well done!

Now, if I remember correctly, we only had Hot & Sour Soup, Double Order of Peking Duck which is actually 2 courses, skin first and meat second, Steamed Whole Pickerel, Shrimp and Green Things, Deep-fried Oysters, BBQ Pork, Double Order of Satay Beef, Lemon Chicken, more Stir-fried Green Things and all the Steamed Rice you could eat.

Did I miss anything, Sunco?

Now for some pictures!

Our leaders for the evening, given their command of Chinese, Mr. Sunco and Sunco, along with Mr. Z.

A toast to the ducks? Or to the Peeps? Doesn't really matter.

Peking Duck Course # 2, the meat. Course # 1, the skin, didn't last long enough for a picture. We were hungry!

Shrimp and Green Things. Yummmmmm...

Mr. Jmac, Bumper and Beachteacher.

YWGDeb observes the finishing touches on the Steamed Whole Pickerel by one of the great Sun Fortune staff members.
Sunco, that's rather a lot of Tsing Tao empties for so early in the evening. No wonder you were giggling.

Mr. Beachteacher snares a sample of the awesome BBQ Pork as it makes the rounds over to our side of the table.

The remains of two orders of Beef Satay (told you we were hungry! ) and Steamed Rice and BBQ Pork.

Finally!! They put one down in front of me so I can take a shot almost before someone digs in! Oh yeah, it's the Lemon Chicken and it was delicious!!

What a fun and filling Peep Meet!!

About shrimp and other shellfish...

Just like to add, that I also share Mrs. B's adversion to shellfish and I had no trouble filling my plate and my stomach! It was a delightful experience and I can't wait to see you all again (especially to enjoy the Peking Duck! Yummy!)

Great news. We'll be looking forward to seeing you, Marj.

Well, that gets us up to 14 now, with some other possibles to be heard from. That will likely put us at two tables, but we'll be plenty close enough to share some conversation. Still lots of spots available, so don't be shy. We don't bite.....mostly. Can anybody think of someone from this neck of the woods we should be sending personal invites to? Some folks don't get on the forum very often, so they might not notice this thread. The more the merrier.

We arrived about half an hour early for our last get together at Sun Fortune. The hostess asked, “Would you like to wait in the bar?” We went into the bar and the bartender said, “What will it be?” I replied, “Give me a Stoli with a twist.” The bartender paused for a few seconds, then smiled and said, “Once upon time, there were FOUR little peegs . . . ” BA-DUM-BUM!!

Anyway, folks, don't forget Eva needs to have a head count by October 4th, so we can make sure we've got the appropriate number of tables set aside. We're up to 14 so far. Please let us know if you'll be joining us for some....
