RIU Hotel Sale ... but for how long?
I just did a search on the RIU website for hotels in Playa and found that they're on sale (a decent savings too!) - Does anyone know the dates the sale is available? I know it expires at the end of Nov but not sure when it starts.
The reason I ask, i tried to book a room for this weekend and got the full rate. Thanks in advance ... |

I've had great experience booking thru riu.com. I initially booked for the RPM Nov 29-Dec 13 and they were substantially higher than Funjet land only price. Got them to match that one. Then on Facebook the other day they said they had a reduced price, got them to change to that. Checked Funjet's price and it was higher than Riu's. You might find a cheaper rated from bookit, etc but then you have to arrange your transportation. For $18, both of us return, they provide transportation from CUN to the resort and back. Booked our air separately with CO from Calgary via Houston and we're saving over $1,500 from the tour operator that carries the RPM in Canada. Only difference is we have a one stop vs direct which for $1500 I can certainly tolerate. AND you don't pay for the resort until you check in. AND if there is another price reduction I just ask for it because otherwise I just cancel our existing accomodation and re-book but they'll match it.

Riu's price for us dropped $700 when I got them to match Funjet's price then dropped another $2/300 with the recent sale. You have to watch them closely. I also look at it that we don't need to pay the exhorbitant Canadian trip cancellation insurance as we can cancel any time up to one week out, then within that week it's one night accomodation which is still cheaper than the insurance I'd have to pay. Will still get medical though.
The transfer is from Hotel Beds and apparently they have "Riu" t-shirts on and yes they might wait for other flights, it's supposed to be a van, and they only stop at other Rius. So depending upon which Riu you go to you might be first or last. I think they said max wait might be 40 minutes. We've always had the same thing with Sunquest and a couple times waited over an hour for people who got sucked in by the timeshare people. CO is Continental. |

Hey Shammy, as you say "depends on dates". When we're going end of Nov Riu.com has the RPM, standard jr suite for $186 per night. And if you use RIUFAN as a code you should get another 5% off. Not sure how long that code's good for though.
