Cava Veinte 33 was closed all of April, their furniture is still in there.

Season moved up to 5th & 34th a while ago.

The choripan at La Portena is now over 50 pesos, haven't tried it this time around.

La Bamba Jarocha on 22nd is closed, other location still going strong.

La Pummarola - sorry to say this, but it's fallen below acceptable levels. Pizza and bread need gluten like a fish needs water. I think their old location is open again.

There's a new restaurant on 1st across from the plantation house (I forget the name, sorry). The food is a bit sweet for me but they know how to cook fish and their steak tartare is excellent.
I know, I bought a "Baguette" that was made by them and sold at the Italian Deli across from DAC. It is like a lead weight. No air, way to much gluten. I could smack AL over the head with it and it would knock him out.

Family feud , One brother is taking over Bites and Ziggy and the other one taking La Tortuga and El Bistro. Apparently Bites will reopen in a 3 to 4 weeks ..emphasis on apparently. This is from an employee so how reliable this info is anybody's guess?

Have not found that out yet.

But on the west side of the highway and a little further south (but north of the Toyota dealer) a huge lot has been cleared. Heard that a full Liverpool department store plus other stores/shops are coming; i.e., a new shopping center is coming to town.

Heard that Centro Maya Shopping Center has been sold to a new group. Hope they do a better job with it.

Hey, if we had a Costco and Home Depot, I would have NO reason to ever drive to Cancun.

SS, I am going to need a scorecard to keep track of just the restaurants that are closing and new ones that are opening.

Dpeefer is going to have his work cut out.. He will be working overtime now.

More places have opened than closed over the past year, and the ones that are opening are generally of better quality or at least more upscale. If Europe's economy doesn't go (even further) down the drain then you'll see this trend continuing for years to come.

Hope you found so great eateries while you were there!! One of my new favorites is Curry Omms on 10st strip mall on the leftside a block before entering Playacar!! It's just a hole in the wall with a few outdoor tables serving some of the best Appetizers and curries one could wish for. Plus it's very reasonable! Don't miss out on this place during your next stay!! PS. The owners are fabulous hosts!!
