Yep - still there and still serving up some of the best Indian cuisine one could ask for!! If I remember correctly, they do close their resturant for a bit during the low season, but I'm not sure the exact timeframe. Enjoy your trip and your cuisines!!

It is on 10th Avenue at the south end. Just outside of the Playacar Phase 1 and 2 guard gates. If you are walking south, it is on your left. Look for a few tables sitting outside. You will love it - it is one of our favorite places to eat in Playa!

Updated Restaurant List (new additions)
This has been a great list. A few additions
New: Cocotte Cita excellent french restaurant on 38th just off 5th (next to Piola). Limited menu but quality of ingredients is superb. and they even offer french cheese. Owned by French chef from Northern France and his wife. This has become the go to restaurant for the French community in Playa. Gluay Maai: new upmarket Thai restaurant on 38th next to Baremar and adjacent to the now closed Cava Veinte. Sister restaurant to one in Puebla. Food is high quality and very tasty although portions are somewhat small. Finally a high quality Thai restaurant in Playa! El Parilla de Manolo. This used to be El Asador de Manolo on 5th avenue and 32nd. Relocated to 8th between 10th and 15th. Outdoor seating. Steaks are superb; prices excellent. You can order wine and beer but they keep the bottles hidden behind the bar. Probably the best steak in Playa. (the restaurant on 5th is now called Carlito's Way). Oh La La. 10th Av, between 14Bis and 16th. International cuisine (mexican fusion?). owned by Colombian chef who grew up in the Netherlands. Very small restaurant (15 seats outside). Menu limited but food is excellent. cooking although wine list is a bit expensive. Reservations required due to very limited seating. And, a few comments Curry Omm like the other comments, the curries are excellent--as good as any we have eaten in the UK. And, one of the few restaurants in Playa that offers lamb, since he has an excellent supplier of lamb for the curry. YOu won't find any fish or prawns on the regular menu, since they can't source high quality ingredients on regular basis. If you are lucky, he might have prawns from a very good supplier, but it is rare. The vegetarian dishes are superb (Dal, Aloo,chole/chickpeas). Don't forget to order the Kulcha bread which is almost as good as Naan. And, they also deliver with a 10% discount if you order before 6pm! ComoComo On 5th avenue between 38th and 42nd. The "new" part of 5th avenue. Outstanding food. we could eat almost every item on the menu. This has become the "go to" restaurant for a large part of the Italian community in Playa, so that says something! You must make reservations especially if you want to eat after 7pm. Even in off season it can be difficult to get a table. Piola on 38th south off 5th. I can't see why anyone enjoys this restaurant. we have had a couple of terrible experiences. Pizzas are small and unoriginal and pretty tasteless. And, don't order anything other than pasta--they can't cook any other food properly. the food arrives either burnt and inedible or just inedible. There are much better restaurants to try in Playa. Look forward to seeing the updated restaurant list ! |

Thanks KBR88
Your input has been helpful. I did not know about Oh La La, and will check it out. Also Curry Omms. Sounds like good additions. I heard that La Piola has changed hands, which might account for your less than happy review. I thought it was first rate on my last visit, but that wa sa year ago. I guess I will have to chance it next time in Playa.

Best Tacos
I have had several favorite restaurants in Playa this past 12 years. Its such a bummer when our favorites close!!! And these were very popular restaurants, always busy. Dr Tacos (owner Carlo is a good friend of ours, he decided to go back to being a Dr.!) and Aca Los Tacos, I miss those two places! I heard that the owner of Aca Los Tacos opened another restaurant, do you know where it is?
What is your favorite restaurant that would be similar to Aca and/or Dr Tacos? Where is PG's, is it by Mamitas? Thank you!! be back in Playa for Xmas and New Years! |

carboncita's
The list is great. Carboncita's--went last night. Made reservations--Why? Not necessary. Not Romantic, but great people watching. Lots of food. Great chips and different salsas. 25 peso margaritaa early. My wife had the pork and beef combo where you make your own tacos. I had the grouper filet with a garlic sauce. Both were excellent and we brought back some of the beef and pork for breakfast. All for under $32.00. cash only. And they brought some complimentary Tequila and lime before you left.
