Tequila is a specific, and regulated form of mezcal, which is to say that all Tequila is mezcal but not all mezcal is Tequila. Yes, most Tequila is made in the state of Jalisco while specified regions in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas are permitted to produce Tequila.

I like like corrections

Righteo Sean. It was while I was in the State of Jalisco the locals looked at the other producers with disdain. It's product pride.

I did research this though. Tons of good reading on tequila. Reading is better enjoyed while sipping the good stuff.

" By Mexican law the agave spirit called Tequila can be made only from one particular type of agave, the blue agave (Agave Tequiliana Weber), and can be produced only in specifically designated geographic areas, primarily the state of Jalisco in west-central Mexico.

Mezcal is made from the fermented juice of other species of agave. It is produced throughout most of Mexico." - courtesy tequilasource.com
