What other local foods should I try?

What kinds of fish are most often available?

Is it legal to walk around town with a bottle of beer in your hand?

I prefer my margaritas on the rocks, not blended. How do I order "a regular margarita on the rocks" in Spanish?

Thanks!

Yucatecan food is good. Try some pollo or pork (cochinita) pibil. A pibil is a dish made with meat cooked in a slow oven prepared with an achiote paste, some orange juice, and some chile. Real Mexican antojitos, talked about on this site's food articles and elsewhere here, are great for snacks or double or triple up on them for a meal. Examples include huaraches, salbutes, empanadas, tacos, tostadas, papadzules, sopes, memelas...

Yellow tail snapper (rubia), hogfish (boquinete, delicious!), grouper, sea bass, wahoo, dorado, tuna, lots of choices. I have some fresh wahoo steaks for tonight.

legal? I really don't know.
accepted? yes.
walking around drunk and obnoxious can land you in jail...I'm told.

Oh yeah. Carnitas literally is a diminutive of meats, so think little meats.

What you'll find, though, are pig parts, cooked in a huge kettle of it's own fat.

For starters, try macisa which is tasty white meat from the leg roast. It's served with tortillas, cilantro and onion and your choice of salsas. That's a real taco.

Later you'll be ready to try tacos de cabeza...
