Question The Case of the Merlin Bank - A Minute Mystery

It was 11:26 pm by the time the police got the call, a local bank called Merlin was robbed by 2 masked felons . Detective James Wilson was first on the scene, James discovered the felons had stolen approximately 9 million dollars in $5 bills!

Later that day he got a call saying 2 potential suspects were caught. A man named Jack claimed to have driven by a house and seen 2 men arguing. James read the exact report …

Jack: “One day when I was driving on Winchell Brook Avenue when I saw 2 men arguing over some money, and inched closer so I could hear.”

“I counted it all twice today!” the man continued “ It's even, we each have 4.5 million!”

Then I drove off and told the cops.

The next day James drove to Jack's house and arrested him for the theft of 9 million dollars.

How did James know Jack wasn’t telling the truth?

EDIT: You may have noticed this thread was closed as soon as it was created. That was not intended to limit your input or enjoyment in any way. On the contrary, your participation is most welcome. The action was taken to prevent eager Peeps from going into some search engine, finding the answer, and posting it, as happened on several occasions in the past. (Of course I harvest a lot of this material from other sources. You didn’t think I create it all myself, did you? I’m good, but I’m not that good!) Regrettably, that also means that folks who legitimately work out their own answers, and would like to post them, don’t get to display their prowess, but I’m afraid that can’t be helped. I’ll open the thread in a couple of days, when Peeps have had an opportunity to try their hand at a solution, and you can post away then. The official answer will come a bit after that. I appreciate your patience and understanding, and hope you enjoy the exercise.

There would be 1.8million $5 dollar bills. To count that twice in 24 hours would require counting 41.66 bills per second

The Official Answer

James knew Jack really made the whole story up to cover his robbery , counting 1.8 million $5 bills would take over 3 days if you counted day and night!
