Who comes up with this stuff . . . Buzzword Bingo
. . .So we’re ON THE SAME PAGE I thought I’d TOUCH BASE and pull you INTO THE LOOP. If this isn’t already on your RADAR, Hotel Cielo accepts donations on behalf of the Angel Notion Clinic. Until now our primary focus has been collecting low dose aspirin for heart patients. The other day I spoke with Lavonna about Angel Notion’s needs and realized aspirin was just the TIP OF THE ICEBERG. In the BIG PICTURE Angel Notion is BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE, with their GAME PLAN depending on the generosity of others. This should be a NO-BRAINER, but it’s not. One CHALLENGE is when generous folks decide to GO THE EXTRA MILE and have trouble knowing what to bring. This isn’t ROCKET SCIENCE--it should be easy. You should STEP UP TO THE PLATE, TEE OFF, AND KICK IT IN THE GOAL. So I’ve decided to GET OUT OF MY BOX, get PROACTIVE and start MULTITASKING. Beginning today, this thread will include a list of Angel Notion’s needs. I am committed to TAKING OWNERSHIP and keeping this list updated. And because I know POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT is an excellent MOTIVATOR, all who drop off donations at Hotel Cielo will receive a Carboncitos discount card, valid for the duration of your Mayan Riviera visit. How’s that for a WIN-WIN? That’s right, SPORTS FANS, no matter how you PEEL THIS ONION, we’re PLAYING HARDBALL! Here’s the first list, let me know if you have any questions. ![]() Currently #1 on the list: In the first week of November 2010 a team of volunteers, in conjunction with the University of Vermont, will descend on Quintana Roo to continue their annual diabetes testing and training program. In 2009 they tested every available taxi driver throughout the state with exception of Cancun. We’ve recently been informed that “One Touch Ultra strips” are direly needed. ![]() Angel Notion will gladly accept any aspirin donations. Since the primary focus of the aspirin program is children, chewables are most appreciated ![]() Alcohol prep pads are used to sterilize skin prior to giving an injection. 70% isopropyl alcohol will work as well. ![]() If you can get your hands on a portable blood pressure tester you’re a super star! ![]() Hearing aid batteries ![]() Condoms ![]() Don’t know if you can see the price tag on this 4mg. tablet of folic acid, but it’s 202 pesos. That’s nearly $20USD here ![]() Children’s school supplies are needed year round ![]() Vitamins for children – preferably chewables ![]() Nutritional supplements for expectant mothers ![]() If you don’t have access to the items mentioned above, fear not. Angel Notion is a full fledged clinic that will appreciate your contribution. Just limit donations to a smallish size, we don’t really have storage space for large items. Hotel Cielo is conveniently located on 4th Street between 5th and 10th Avenues. For hotel and rate information, please take a look at our website Oh, and one more thing...THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! |

My brother donated one as well, along with a bunch of other items for AN from my mom and her husband. We're looking for a mule from the Chicago/Wisconsin area now. |

![]() ![]() ![]() I brought school supplies last year. With all but one of my kids out of school I had lots that we no longer had use for or had never been used. This last trip was so quick that I didn't even think of bringing items down... ![]() However, while I was there I finished 3 books. I did give them to a friend in Playa, but I think a neat idea would be "BOOKS for BABIES"- no not children's books, but when we are finished with our beach reading materials, we could donate them to this worthy cause. English language novels are hard to find in Playa, and if one location had a supply of used books to buy, funds could be donated to Angel Notion. It could also be done with any old DVD movies we have at home- "MOVIES for MAMAS".... If someone wants to run with this I will do what I can from the woods in Nova Scotia. Facebook page etc..... |

It would be one suitcase full of supplies (gauze, asthma nebulizer, blood pressure thingie, and a bunch more bandages and other stuff....I can't remember what). My mom can bring it to you (she lives in Waukegan) and will pay any 'extra luggage' fees your airline would charge. I will check with Lavonna to see if there is a way to have a letter drafted in Spanish explaining that the items are donations for the clinic so you wouldn't get hassled in customs.

Thanks for the list, saves me an e-mail. I'll be down again in February and luckily the airline allows 2 free checked bags per person. Since I'm bringing my parents down for their first trip I'll have access to 2 extra suitcases besides my own. 1 for PPS, 1 for Coco's and 1 for AN.

I love the book/movie idea! I left the books I finished while there in the hotel room last year, would have been nice to know that they actually went to a good cause! |

I think the books thing is a great idea, too, and I'd be willing to help with that. I've got some space to store books, but finding a way to transport them/get them to a place they could be sold is a challenge. I don't live in an area easily frequented by the average tourist and also, I don't really want a bunch of people I don't know to know where I live.
![]() Any suggestions welcome, and I'll help however I can. |
