Gran Porto Real's problems return...

Not 10 months after that dramatic beach restoration project begun that pumped trillions of gallons of reclaimed sands onto the beach on Playa, one of the ambassadors of the project, the Gran Porto Real is now back to filling sand bags to try protect what little they have left of their tiny beach area, ironically exacerbating the problem by using the sand from their very own beach.

After spending millions, angering local fishermen and boat users, and resulting in dumping tonnes of sand and debris onto the local reef, the GPR still has no beach for their guests.

call it a problem if you will
the real problem was granting permission for them to build there

This was what is was like in front of the Real before the Real.

This was taken before they built the hotel, not much then, I guess they thought they could put there hotel out there and move some sand around. Mother natures just doing her thing.

IMHO they sould have never been allowed to build the hotel out there, it should have been set back in line with the others and left the limestone/sand point as it was.

How is it just south of there? Between say Zenzi's and GPR? We will be at Magia condos and I do believe this is where we will be entering the beach area with our chairs and coolers.....how far will we have to walk to have a decent spot?

They may be having issues with the water entry area, and the beach is quite a bit smaller than it was after the replenishment (a lot smaller in some spots!), but saying there's no beach for their guests is a bit of an overstatement (it scares people booked there to read that). There are places for guests to sit, play volleyball, etc.

You can see the sandbags at the water's edge in the photo below. Protection yes, but another reason for this is so guests can get into the ocean, without a drop off. The sandbags act like steps.

That pier is a big issue, it affects the currents and basically takes the sand back off the beach.

The sandbags are illegal.
They are doing more harm than good.
The local and state authorities claim they have no jurisdiction since the beaches are federal property.
The feds aren't doing anything about it.
There are suspicions why.

You're absolutely right.
Recently someone on this forum suggested the construction of jetties.
For every action there is a reaction.
A deposit here will guarantee an erosion there.
