A little shocked and confused!!!!!!!!
Last night I was going through all 50 some odd pages form the forum and happened to stumble across a few members seriously ditching Canada .This will be the first time I have been in PDC let alone MEXICO itsellf and at first I was so excited to drink,party and mingle with some good people assuming that with the outgoing personality I have that it would be no problem?!
I'm hopeful that this was just a temporarily confusion as to what kind of people we are,actually as far as I'm concerned I didn't realize that there was a label to be made on anyone. C'mon you guys if you met me you wouldn't even know where I am from until I slip out a eh. You don't realize what a serious asset (I know I'm setting myself up with that word)of fun I could ADD to your festivities. I used to live in Minneapolis for two years and loved the way I was treated there (no different) it's not like I'm the government and you can pin point your anger at me directly............from any country!!!!! So in the end I'm going to try this again.....I'm looking forward to having a cocktail or two with some "good people " out there. "It's me Leanne trust me we'll have a blast"!!!!!! |

Confusion
Leanne,
You are confused if think this board ia abouth anything other than a bunch of people who LOVE Playa and want to share it with others. We occasionally get involved in spirited discussions, good natured teasing, and other off topic chats, but trust me.... No one will hold being Canadian against you, it;s not your fault! :wink: :wink: :wink: Can't wait to buy you a drink, I'll be there from Feb 15-20. Name the place. Your new friend form NY. Shocked
We were in Playa last year and were treated great by everyone regardless of their nationality. When the sun shines, the Tequila and Cervesas flow, and the party begins. I would think that anything negative you have read was from people who wish they could go to Playa and enjoy meeting other people. Politics is a strange bedfellow. 8)

leanne-andy relax! playa is the place where your soul will be set free! your smile will not leave your faces from the moment you step off the plane! people that are in playa for the first time or for the 1000 time are super cool it doesnt matter where you are from or where you are going you will be hooked for life and it will be painful to leave. i have never met anyone in playa that was rude to me or not happy to share a cerveza with me. in november we met some people from canda and they were super people although it took a few minutes for them to thaw out.that was okay we understood and when they did they were a blast! so relax and get ready for the time of your life and be prepared to get very friendly with your travel agent or your favorite airline because you will be livnig and working in canada for only one thing> to come back!! it is kinda like a drug once you get a taste you can never get enough. we will be there 3/4/04-3/7/04 if you are there we will gladly buy you a cerveza!!

Hola Leanne & Andy;
I hate to parrot what a lot of other folks have said, but I think the best advise you've been given is Relax We made our first trip to Playa last year for a couple of weeks and had the time of our lives. We're on our way back in a mere 15 days (but who's counting?) to stay a month this time. I think we're going to be long-term regulars from now on, for at least a month at a stretch. We were treated royally by essentially everyone we encountered. I think you'll find everyone very tolerant an non-judgemental. For the most part, I suspect you won't encounter anyone who cares if you're Canadian, Lithuanian or Morrocan. I was addressed as "Hey, Mr. Canada" in the street, by vendors and timeshare salesmen, because of the uniquely Canadian Tilley hat I tend to wear, but that was a sales technique, not because of any interest in where I was from. These same folks called me "Mr. Whiskers", because of my beard. It just isn't that important. We met a pile of Canadians when we were there, but not on purpose. We'd sit down at a bar, or a restaurant, or on the beach, and strike up a conversation. The subject of where you were from was bound to come up - because everybody is interested in that, and it's a good icebreaker - but that was generally the extent of the discussion about national origin. It just doesn't matter. There are exceptions, of course. We ran into a couple on the beach, who we did not know, who lived about three blocks from us, here in Winnipeg, and who had been talking to home that day about the -35 degree temperature that morning, so that precipitated a bit more conversation about people and places in common, but generally the conversation moves on quickly from "Where are you from?" Folks are mostly interested in who you are, and if you're worth knowing, not where you call home. The people who frequent this forum are a fine example of the sort of really good folks you'll likely meet in Playa. I think everybody down there has such a great attitude because the're just glad to be away from the frozen tundra and in a little bit of Paradise. RELAX! and just let it happen. We'll be around from Feb 23 thru March 23 and would be pleased to hook up for a bit of elbow bending. You're making too much of it. Way too sensitive! Chill out! (easy to do in Winnipeg) Relax!!

re: shocked etc
I have to weigh in here by first voting with the other responders ... secondly I must plead guilty to being the one who started the anti-Canadian and anti-American socio/political insult exchanges which you ran into searching past posts ... a Canadian had posted a mixed query about shore fishing and the existence of any possible negative vibe toward Canadians ... I responded that shore fishing was essentially non-existent and that (tongue in cheek) Canadians were often deported on sight for their own protection or something to this effect ... the original poster got the gag but ... ensuite ... there came a flurry of posts featuring Canadian and American chest pounding and bashing ... I formally apologized to James on the matter and have been a good natured country boy from WV in my posts since then and not my true self which is a wise guy from Newark, NJ ... I am not as funny as I used to be but cause far fewer interntional virtual incidents

Playa trip
If you are going to Playa from Feb. 11th to Feb.18 I'll just buy you a cold beer just to show you how much we like the Canadians. Other than having the longest national anthem I've ever heard there ain't nothing wrong with our neighbors to the north.

We stayed at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort last year & most of the people there were from Canada. We think they are the most fun & friendly people in the world!!! In fact that is one of the main resons we're going back this year--same resort!! We also went to Canada last summer (Banff & Jasper) aside from it being absolutely beautiful. We again can't express to people enough how friendly & fun the Canadians were. I can't imagine anyone would think any differently!

(MY opinion) You will find no friendlier place than PDC.....we have been to all the "Island", several months on the French Riviera (different visits)
& a good part of Europe........NOWHERE were the people as friendly or do we feel as safe as in Playa.............I like to describe Playa as a very Cosmopolitan city......people of all nationalities, languages & habits just there to enjoy themselves. We've been going to Playa since 1985 & have seen a lot of growth & changes but without question it is still our favorite place to visit...... (Just came back home from 3 weeks in Playa.....every day was fantastic. The Mexican people are so gracious to let us invade their PARADISE!! :lol: :lol: :lol: |
