Beaches come and go, we've experienced both, just depending on the wind. In Wisconsin we have a saying: "Don't like the weather, wait fifteen minutes".
As for beaches in Playa "Don't like the conditions, wait 15 hours". A tad of an exgateration (sp?) but not far from true. We have seen the beach in front of the Playa Maya grow from one row of chairs in front of the palapa to 3 in 48 hours, and on our last stay, vice versa.
