I"ve heard these rumors from time to time, too. I think the operative thing to remember is that in Mexico, nothing is a done deal until it is absolutely physically done. Not to say that it won't happen -- just a comment on the timing.

My cousin had talked to some investors down there and she mentioned building an airport south of Tulum.

There is already an airport in Tulum. In fact, it was there 20 years before Cancun even was a thought. It's not international, but it's functional.

When it comes to airport JAH is the expert, or at least married to one.

Judy - isn't that the military airport? Bill drove down there last time he was there to check into it and was chased off by military guys. Has Don been able to fly into there?

Not yet, but Alberto Saab has promised to fly in there with him when we are down there in March. I guess he'll see what happens. Saab didn't seem to think it would be a problem.

I dredged this up for Phil’s benefit.

He was asking about the new airport. All of the details are in this thread.

Relax, this is still Mexico! I get reminded of this whenever I drive under the highway overpasses to nowhere on Route 180. Been standing there, unused, for over 11 years now.

The new international airport has been completed for some time now.

I think this was actually the source of the airport rumors. One recent visitor commented that the airport seemed too new, too big and too empty.

heard that a new airport is going in near Akumal and Chemuyil. Hope that's a rumor.

That 'rumor' was in a local paper with the mayor of PDC in the foreground, Seakony. We'll see what happens. Few things happen quickly in Mexico.

Airport

There is talk on another board about an airport being built somewhere between Akumal and Chemuyil. Could this be the one? I sure hope not. One reason I love that area is the feeling of remoteness, although that area is growing also.
