I was just reading about this as my mom was texting me about it. So sorry for all those touched by this. It is tough to read about, so I can't imagine what it's like to be there right now. Prayers from us here in Texas.

Mods merged the two threads and moved them to the general section.

Anyway, it's sounding like it could have been caused by a buildup of gas from the swamp in the area... judging by the new photos that are appearing online the explosion took place under the floor... the damage is massive.

The wife and I are supposed to be next door at the Sunset Princess next week. Scary.

If it was in a restaurant and lobby, there must have been lots of employees

it was in the Riviera Platinum lounge building. this area is where the concierge is located, the four computers for internet, the lounge, and is close to the pool. all the walls are made of glass.
this is an area that is quite busy in the am with people grabbing their towels, making reservations, getting a drink, meeting people.
a very sad day and our thoughts are with everyone down there now

This resort is north of Playa, directly north of Xcalacoco.

We live in Selvamar, which sits between the Princess and the highway. I kept hearing ambulances mid-late morning, but had no idea why until now.
