Suggest we wait for result of investigation before we speculate

I think we should wait until the investigation into the gas explosion is completed before speculation gets out-of-hand. In the meantime, I would rather see people have compassion for those who died and those who were injured in the explosion.

Watching CBS news at 4:30am the preliminary cause of the blast was reported as a gas build up under the floor of the affected building. Since L.P. gas companies don't put their tanks underground, that would lead back to another source of gas (swamp) causing the explosion. The reports showed the MX army soldiers and police on the grounds of the resort.

I just found in a swiss online newspaper that they assume there was organic garbage stored under the lobby which caused a 180m³ cavity filled with gas which ended up exploding.

Wegen verrottetem Müll: Luxus-Hotel explodiert

If thats the reason or not, its a tragedy and my thoughts are with everyone involved

Watching the Early Show report on the explosion/tragedy, the Attorney General of Q. Roo reports swamp gas as the cause of the explosion. Five Canadians vacationers and two Mexican workers perished. There were also many injuries.

I jogged down to the gate this morning. Everything looks completely normal from the outside. Police and/or military must be in the interior of the resort.

Continued positive thoughts for those recovering, and for the families of the deceased.

Probably garbage is incorrect but maybe lost in translation. Typically "swamp gas" is found in marshes and swamps, i.e. mangrove - wherever stagnant water coincides with the decay of organic matter. Organic matter being dead leaves, plants, animals, fish, etc.
My concern would be all of the places that have been built on/over destroyed mangroves. I would guarantee this ain't the only place.
