Is there a standard cost in Pesos for a cab ride within town, or do you have to negotiate (haggle) with the cabbie on each ride? I think I read somewhere that its 10 pesos as a standard fee to anywhere within PDC.
Also, if there's a local bus service within PDC, what's the cost in Pesos for that?

It's still 10 pesos around town, which is pretty cheap even on a national level for Mexico. As soon as you cross the line and enter Playacar, that jumps to 35(?) or more. Think of it as the local use being subsidized by the AI's.

Buses taking you around town charge 3 or 4 pesos. I rarely use them, thus my uncertainty. I live pretty close in to everything. I've also never been able to remember bus routes and schedules.

Hi, Just returned from Playa on February 12th and we used about 4 or 5 cabs and all charged us 20 pesos except one charged us ten. I even had a copy of the Playa del Carmen pamphlet (can't recall the name) and I showed it to a cab driver showing 10 pesos, he said no it's 20. That was just a taxi from ****** to the supermarket by the ball diamond. Better luck to you to get the cab for 10 pesos.

it's only ten pesos. unfortunately, some people like to take advantage of tourists.

you'll pay 5 (I think) more if you get a taxi waiting at a street stand (sitio) on fifth in the evenings, or if you call a taxi to come pick you up. (873-0032)

my advice: if you are concerned, carry 10 peso coins and use them. also, you needn't even ask what a fare is, as it is predetermined. do your homework when you arrive, or check back here to see if rates have gone up. then just pay the driver for the ride as you get out, and have zero discussion.

Even at 20 pesos, it's not too expensive, but it's the principal of the thing. I hate getting ripped off, and I bet you do too.

I think that taxi drivers are mostly the same all over the world, no?

I´m now in PDC....arrived last night at the bus station downtown and got a cab, asked how much and they insisted on 20 pesos. We said it should only be 10 pesos and both of the cabbies that we spoke to would not take us (and our luggage)....but still thoroughly enjoying the area!! P.S. were really shocked at the size of our hotel room (at Caribbean Paradise)....we have never seen such a small room before!! Weather is spectacular!!

I just got home from downtown. I paid 10 pesos. If you pay more, you ought not.
