I began to take Paxil about three years ago. I had been fighting taking medication for awhile. I had been taking care of my mom who was very ill because of three spine surgeries. I began to feel, as Jacko mentioned, normal. Paxil helps with anxiety but not for depression. Supposedly a high dosage of Paxil helps depression well from personal experience it doesn't. Also, in my case, I have noticed that I have built a resistance to its effects so I need to take the highest dose for it to have any effects. Side effects from this medication for have been weight gain and that is about it. 2006 has been a year full of difficult events for me. I didn't want to take an anti-depressant because I want to go off of Paxil so I started to see a therapist. This has been the best thing I could ever do for myself. Just having someone to talk to and to offer some suggestions to me has worked wonders.
I, like some of you have mentioned, believe that there are a lot of people who suffer from depression, anxiety and other forms of mental illnesses. In our society it is stigmatized because we are so hung up on what other people think and how we look and behave. I see getting treatment the same as going to the dentist.
