It's not the US national team.
It's a Mexican club team called Club America, otherwise known as the Zopilotes de Amierdica. Otherwise known as the Diving, Whining, Cheating, Plutocratic Bastards Who Are Not Fit To Hold The Jocks Of My Beloved UNAM Pumas.
You see their yellow shirts all throughout Mexico and of course, in the US. They are the second most popular team in Mexico. For some unknown and unjustified reason, my wife likes them. But she also likes White Zinfandel and disco.
Here's Karen in her jersey.
The newspaper that Mexivoof read was mad because Club America lost in the 3rd place match of the World Club Championship to an African team. The World Club Championship was held in Japan.
The media in Mexico and the Spanish language media in the US usually have vastly unrealistic expectations of how Mexican club and national teams will fare. The actually expect the Mexican national team to beat the US national team in matches held at sea level. How cute.
Here's the report on the match that started this thread.
African teams are quite tough and usually feature players have have experience in top European leagues.
