Walk north on Ave 30 until you come to Calle 30. Turn right. One block to 25th. Or... ...walk west on Constituyentes to Ave 25. Turn right. Walk to Calle 30. |

When I printed my map from another "forum" it overlapped or transposed....25th Ave was not on it it went 15, 20, 30. As I look at the map on the computer I can see it clearly and know where to go! Last year on walk back from El Fogon we passed it. Seemed like we were in a residential area. I can't find my little map I printed last year that fit into my pocket, I mapped out restaurants and bars suggested here. We like to try local places and love going off 5th to explore. We never have been able to find the HC's on the North End street name CXM or something similar, is it still there?

Util as good as ever...Pummarola, no so much
I had dinner there on Monday night with friends, the first time I've been there since the garden seating area opened. Papa Charlie seemed a bit more frazzled than usual and explained that they had no gas with which to boil water, so only the oven items were available, canneloni and lasagna. Of course, we all ordered the meat and spinach lasagna, which was outstanding as usual and cheap (90 pesos, as I recall.) IMHO, the new garden is a welcome addition to one of my favorite restaurants in PDC.
In contrast, we had dinner with friends at Pummarola last week at their location on 24th and it was a major disappointment. As some of you may know if you've read my earlier posts, I've raved about the place in the past and was very happy when they opened their new location since it's only a short walk from our place. First, there were several items on the menu that they didn't have, which can happen, but this seemed unusual. Second, when we sat down, when I asked for the wine list, the waiter immediately put about six bottles of really cheap (and overpriced, even for a restaurant in Playa) wines on the table instead of giving me a wine list. All of the wines were wines like Two Oceans (South Africa), Concha y Toro (Chile), a cheap Spanish red, all of which I've seen at Wal-Mart, Mega, Sam's) but no Italian wines. When I asked what happened to their old wine list and why they had no Italian wines at an Italian restaurant, I was told they had problems with the distributor. In short, one of my favorite restaurants is now on probation. With all of the great Italian restaurants now up north of Constituyentes all the way to 42nd St on 5th (think, Como, Como), Pummarola is going to have to step up its game if they're going to compete. Glad to hear Util is still awesome - we ate there twice last year. The garden seating will be a welcome addition. The first night we went to Util all of the tables were taken and there were people waiting to be seated. They told us it would be about 15 mintues - well after about 20 minutes we decided that we would just come back another night because it didn't look like there were going to be any tables opening up soon. As we told them we would be coming back another evening Papa Charlie told us to wait he would have a seat soon - he made a phone call and soon a couple of girls came down the street carrying a card table and two chairs and he set us up right outside
- GREAT customer service! Can't wait to get back there!

New favorite dish there-the canollini with rossini sauce. OMG! Papa Charlie ordered it for us and it was to die for! He came back to check on us after we started to eat it and he put his hands on his face like home alone and said "O-M-G it's so good right!?" We were rolling laughing
