I will be staying at the Mayan Palace in a few weeks and am curious as to which rooms are the closest to the pool. I've booked a hotel unit and have read reports about 2002-2004 and 3002-3004. Are they in the same building, just different floors? I'm thinking a room on the third floor would be a bit quieter than rooms on the second floor. Any suggestions? Ideally, I would like to be as close to the pool as possible. Pre-thanks!

If you click on Topics in General and look for the posting from Katrina, titled posting pictures on the internet, you will find all kinds of great info on the Mayan Palace. Definitely worth checking out.

Try for a room that ends with 01-26. That will put you in the first two buildings closest to the pool, which share an entrance. So you want 1001-1026, 2001-2026, or 3001-3026 (but I think 3002 and 3004 are the models....best view in the house).

Thanks for the clarification on the rooms Katrina and also for posting your pictures.
I leave on the 8th of March and hope to post pics and a trip report when I return, so I may have a few questions for you regarding the "how-to's" of picture posting

I imagine Linda will be heading back soon and I'm anxious to find out her thoughts on the Mayan Palace.

Hello everyone, I am back from the "palace". If you want a quiet room (if there is such a thing), try for the backside of the building. Just for clarification, there are 3 floors, rooms with numbers 1000, etc. are ground floor rooms, 2000, are up one level and 3000 are the top floor. Backside rooms are the ones with odd numbers and they overlook the jungle and the service road, if you are in an even numbered room, you have a "view" of the main bldg. still under construction and worked on daily from 8 a.m. until 8-9 p.m. every night. Granted it is coming along day by day but sitting out on your balcony for a quiet time at night or after 8 a.m. is just not possible (but only if you are in the first 2-3 bldgs., from bldg. 4-9, it does seem to be a little more peaceful). Having just returned this past Fri. (sorry it took a while to post, I severely sprained my foot at a restaurant during one of the many rainy days that we had during our 2 wks.) Anyway, I really will not let that affect my judgement of the place, weather is a chance that we all take whenever we travel. So, in answer to this question, if I were to go back tomorrow, I would try to get a room facing the jungle in bldg. #1 or 2, 2nd or 3rd floor. Only because you don't get much of a view of the pool anyway, and it is a lot less noise. We were in rooms 2016 and 2018 for our first week and then shared 2016 for week 2. Our "maid" was a wonderful guy by the name of Miguel, what a hard worker, we never had to ask for anything twice, yes, we tipped him daily but it was worth it.

Katrina, I checked out your pictures and they are great! You have done everyone here a wonderful favor by posting them. Some things have changed already though, the hammocks are no longer there, all taken down. And the beach restaurant was being dismantled as we left, part of the palapa roof blew off during the big storm on the 14th and now it is completely out of service (but that could change again, things change there almost daily) so now there is only the one restaurant by the pool for all meals.

I will try to answer questions if you have them. Linda

Linda! Thank you so much for the report and sorry you had bad weather. I sure hope it will change for us in 7 days. No Hammocks! Are they crazy? We love Hammocks. Hopefully the Palapa Roof will get fixed so there are 2 restaurants again by next week. Oh well, the way the resort sounds we will only use it as a base to sleep and take some dips in the pool otherwise we will be gone all day and hang out at our favorite places. After all we got this deal dirt cheap and will not complain about it. We get what we paid for.

Munichchick--when are you leaving? I wanted to give you some specific info on rooms. For some reason, I am having trouble posting on this board since this morning, it's me, don't anybody start checking anything, I am just out of practice.

My husband is taking me to a movie tonight but I will be checking back again later or tomorrow for sure.

I agree, any vacation is better than no vacation and if you are getting a good price, thank your lucky stars because boy were we glad that we didn't spend thousands of dollars for this trip! There should be a discount for everyone whether they are owners or just your average guy.

Hope your weather is better than ours was, but you make do, we had some good times laughing about getting a tan through the wind and rain!

Welcome back Linda!
Sorry to hear about the sprain and the rain
What a bummer! I hope you had a few nice days.
I leave on the 8th for one week. Hope the restaurant is up and running by then. How bout those Dos Equis and chips/guacamole?
I guess a vacation is what you make of it, rain or shine. I'm just looking forward to seeing that wonderful blue water!
Thanks for your post.

The Dos Equis and guacamole and chips by the pool (almost every day) were great. If any of you are early risers like me, try to catch at least one sunrise (around 6 a.m.), you won't be sorry, it was spectacular (at least the 3 days that we saw a sunrise).

My "ultimate room choice" now that I have been there would be the higher numbers in bldg. #1 or most of bldg. #2. By higher #'s, I mean, say, 2005-2012, (mainly because if you are down more toward the pool, you hear music all day and until later in the evening from the pool area.) Those numbers would be bldg. #1. Bldg. #2, I would take any number, "poolside" or jungle side, just not on the ground floor because there are workers out on the grounds sometimes right next to your window doing landscaping. I put poolside in quotes because the view of the pool is almost not worth mentioning. Our room # were 2016 & 2018 for the first week and the former for the second week. 2016 is a condo unit and 2018 is a hotel. 3002-3004 (and maybe 3006) are models, you cannot request those rooms.

Linda! Thank you so much for the room number information. Since we will be in a Hotel Unit which number would you recommend as the best location? I will call the hotel and request that number. When you look over the jungle do you also look over a parking lot or construction site? I think it would be nice to look over the pool if possible. Give me your favorite numbers for jungle and pool side please.

Katrina, On one of the posts from Linda she stated to make sure to lock your doors because people just walk in and out all the time. Did you have that problem when you were there?

All these new posts about the Mayan Palace are becoming very depressing. I'm going back to re-read yours! You seem to have had a better experience. Thanks again for all those pictures!

Shamalama,

No, I never had anyone except the maid enter my room while I was there. I can't imagine why they had to enter hers unless they were tapping into water lines for some reason. And why they didn't stop when they heard the shower!!

I commented to Linda in an e-mail that it sounds to me, too, that she didn't have as good a time as I did. Perhaps part of it is because I am single and went there to hang out; read some books; and basically have a very quiet time. Whereas she has a child to keep entertained, and I am not used to that. A lot of people have commented that they would wait until the construction is finished before they go back. Not me...I don't want to go when it is a monster resort with a million people. I would go back anytime now, if they had a shuttle to and from PDC running (or I had a rental car)because the biggest pain for me for the week was the "hurry up and wait" time taking the bus (you know, wait for the shuttle to take you to the front gates; wait on the highway for the bus; and then wait at the bus station for the return bus).

I haven't yet seen Rick B post his trip report (he was there same time as me), except for his comment that they had no major complaints. It would be interesting to read his take on things, too.

Katrina
