Great photos, Jim, every one. What was that you were eating at Canibal Royal? (edit: the table looks like Canibal Royal, but not the beds- it's the photo after the cat...)
Really nice to meet you and Donna and hang out a little bit. Looking forward to more pics! Last edited by caramba; 12-18-2010 at 12:38 AM.. |

Off to the St Louis Airport, we are on vacation now!!
We drive into St Louis on Monday afternoon on I-70 in a blinding rain storm. Just a good thing it’s warm, I can’t imagine what it would have been like if it was snow. We stayed at the new Hilton Garden Inn just east of the airport. It had a good rate with 14 days of parking and was rated #2 in St Louis on TripAdvisor so we thought we would give it a try. Has a small bar & restaurant but they did not have much appeal to the boozing foodie in me. Not wanting to eat there and NOT wanting to drive anymore, but more than ready for a few drinks, hmm, what to do. Donna suggests “why don’t we take their shuttle to the airport and take Marriott’s shuttle to their bar / restaurant”, the Rock River Grill. Ah Ha, yes, that’s plan. And the Marriott shuttle will also take you to 3 or 4 other places to eat. Off we go in the Hiltons shuttle, just us and we tell the driver of our plan and he takes us right to the Marriott. He says just call the hotel and he will pick us up if it is by 10pm (I think the $10 tip may have helped here). Well once at the Marriott and at what has become our favorite pre Playa bar we are happy.
![]() Of course Donna has to bring Alicia the rabbit along since Playa was her home before she adopted her from the little store across & up 10th street from what was El Bar (really miss that place). ![]() As always a good time was had at Marriott’s Rock River Grill & Bar. ![]() We share the Caesar Salad with Crab Cake ![]() And a favorite, their grilled cheese with tomato bisque soup. ![]() The bartender gives Alicia her own soup plus she puts a bib on her (she understands, she has a little critter that travels with her). ![]() Of course I have dessert, chocolate molten lava cake. After that we head over to the airport, the Marriott shuttle driver drops us off at the stop where the hotel shuttles pick up (Nice guys these shuttle drivers) and we catch the Hilton shuttle back to the hotel.
