Great timing on this report Jim as I hope to get some helpful hints for some new spots to eat in a couple weeks.

Our 1st trip to Playa was about 3 weeks after Wilma, amazing what has been re-built/changed since then.

I remember that white building with the big twisty logs...they were just finishing building it our first trip to Playa ever, in about 2002. We were staying at the El Tukan, so walked by there every day on the way to the good ole Tucan Beach Club!

St Louis to Playa via Miami

Tuesday, November 30th, Donna Birthday

We are leaving a cool and cloudy St Louis

We catch the 4:30AM shuttle to the airport for our 6:20 flight to Miami with a 2:15hr layover. So, don’t you think you could get a Cuban sandwich at the Miami Airport, well if you can, I could not find one.

So, wanting to get something in my belly before our flight, this is where we end up, can you believe it.

At least we did not get Mexican food, Hot Dogs & Cheesy Beer Soup.

Donna loves doing the paper work.

Our flight is at the gate right on time at 1:05 PM. Thru customs & immigration in no time. $4000 pesos from the ATM / bathroom stop and out to the ADO buses by 1:35, unbelievable. ADO girl says the next Playa bus is boarding at 1:45, leaving at 2PM. Sound good, tickets are now 120pesos or $10US each, yes they still will take US dollars. So we wait for the bus, 2pm, no bus (and no Sol beer at Coconuts airport bar), 2:15, not but, while 2 or 3 Cancun buses come and go. I ask the ADO girl, “un momento, traffic” she says, so it shows at 2:30 at least half full. Try to load the bags into the belly compartments on the left side, no, go around to the other side, after rearranging some bags I can get just one of our bags in. There are NO ADO people to help with the bags, only thing they did was open and close the doors. Thank goodness one girl is suppose to be on the 3pm bus and she has to take he one bag off so I then can get our other suitcase on but still no room for our carry-ons. So, onto the bus with the bags that will no way fit in the overhead storage. We have seats 45 & 46, no numbers anywhere; everybody says just sit anywhere, only 2 or 3 seats left by now and of course none together.

As the bus departs 2 people are having to stand, at this point my opinion of the ADO buses has changed. Donna is up there somewhere sitting by some people that are hacking away like crazy and passing used Kleenex back and forth across the isle.

We make it to Playa about 3:30 and drag our bags the 4 blocks to Jimi & Chars condo.

The sweet little lady that cleans there is just finishing up. She does one heck of a job. If you leave any clothes hanging or laying around you will come back to find them washed and folded. Last trip I left a bunch of zip-lock bags on a shelf in the spare bedroom and came back one day to find them all sorted by size and folded neatly on the shelf.

Thanks for leaving Sols for Donna in the frig Jimi! Unpack and settle in a bit then head towards the beach.

Straight down 6th from the condo is our first stop, Fusion, they now have the whole bar area under a big palapa roof.

A little hungry by now we have an order of guacamole to go with are drinks and listen to the band.

Donna looks very happy to be in Playa at last.

We are working our way north to try a new place for dinner and we stop by the Red Queen for a drink and ask about their roof top bar. It is only open on Tuesdays and only during daylight hours, we have the day right but a few hours to late, but they do give us some 2 for 1 cards for the rooftop bar, maybe next week (I left these for you Jimi & Char, so remember, Tuedays during the day).

A little farther north and guess where. Jorge the bartender at Luna Blue always remembers us as Jimi & Chars friends and asked if they are in Playa or when are they coming back.

Of course Donna has to go check on Frankie & Oso.

I enjoy a strong and tasty Margarita then it is off the supper.

Origenes up on 38th and Flamingos is on destination.

Donnas Tortilla Soup, $68 pesos

My garlicy shrimp dish “Cazuella De Camarones $160 pesos. There $65 p margaritas are very good.
Origenes, a very nice place, is rated very high on Trip Advisor and we think it was good, but not great.
It is now 10pm and after getting up a 3:30am we head back down 5th to the condo.

Well, the food does look good there, anyway.... So many good restaurants in Playa... so little time! Keep it going, Jim!
And oh.... that pic of Frankie and Oso makes me really miss them, especially Oso who cried at our window two nights til we let her in to snuggle with us.

The food at Origenes was very good, its kind of like Xulam, glad we went, but not one of those places you can't wait to try again and at least they did not have that oh so annoying music like Xulam. Donna say some of it sounded like the sound of a smoke alarm that neens new batteries.

On the subject of cats, we ran across these guys, 2 of 4 and Donna thought the guy on the right was one of the most beautiful guys she has ever seen in Playa.

Coco's had a kitten that looked like him but he did not let me get close to him, still kind of wild.

I guess you won't like my food cart hot dog pictures coming up in this TR.
