Thanks in advance

I would have to say La Tortuga. The food and service are both excellent!! It's a beautiful place.

I agree - La Tortuga hotel or Carboncitos. Might want to check with Russell from Carboncitos to see if you can do it on the rooftop.

If you are looking for something even more authentic and pretty casual, los amigos on calle 26 and avenida 30 would be a decent place.

For 20 people 'not on 5th', you might consider some of the restaurants on Calle 4, like Carboncito's, Makheroni (sp?), Manne's Biergarten and La Kalaka. Been to all of them and all good and all could handle 20 with some advance notice.

Mannes would be fun for a large group. And he would probably cook you whatever you wanted beef, a pig etc.

John Grays on calle corazon would be nice for an upscale but cozy atmosphere.

Thanks for all the replies

my son is heading down soon to Playa to start the plans for his upcoming wedding in 2012 and I asked him to check out a few places for the grooms dinner and pick up some menus if possiable

They have been talking with Anna at La tourtuga and will be having the reception there after the wedding

keep the recomendations coming!

Talked to Russell from Carboncitos today rooftop is not available anymore for parties :-( my son checked it out when he was down there last year and had put that on the top of his list well it's either an early dinner there or we'll have to find something else for a count that could go as high as 30!
Keep the suggestions coming

John Gray's has been gone from that location for almost year.
J.G. is still in Puerto Morelos though.
