Gran Porto Real
Hi, I'll be staying at this resort in May/June. Has anyone been there in recent months who can give a review? I have read some reviews on other sites and it seems like people either love this place or hate it. 2 of us on this trip are pretty easy going the other two have never been to an AI in a subtropical area before, so I am a little nervous that it won't live up to their expectations _ can anyone quell my fears?

Pier?
Also, if anyone has any opinions on whether the new pier is a negative (or positive) factor in staying at this hotel. Not interested in public opinion, just if it impacted your vacation. I was thinking it could be a positive to have the shuttle to Cozumel located 200 yards from your hotel room.

I was just in the neighbourhood yesterday, right outside in fact and if it was I staying there, I'd think of switching. You are right downtown PDC and there is construction right across a small street from the hotel. Also, the beach is not the best.
To stay at an AI right in PDC doesn't make sense as there are better and cheaper hotels in town not to mention better restaurants and food. If you want a great AI in a beautiful natural surrounding I'd highly recommend the Bahia Principe. Hope this doesn't burst your bubble but take it from someone who has experienced a less than stellar AI experience before and think about moving resorts. If you have any questions, email me at tdev01@yahoo.com |

Yep, I'm going to have to agree with tdev...and for all the same reasons. If you want to stay near PDC, stay IN PDC. There are some smaller hotels right on the beach that are fabulous!
Otherwise, if it's possible, I'd see if I could switch hotels. |

Thank you
Thanks for your advice. We had all already booked and payed before I asked the question on this board (I learned my lesson!) Plus we are all in seperate parts of the country using sperate travel agents (OY!) I don't know if switching is going to be possible - but knowing what we're in for a head of time helps a ton. 8) BTW I love this website - the forums and site have given us a lot of info on Playa that we wouldn't have gotten from a travel book or agent! Thank you!
