Another great installment. I visited mojito queen several times in Nov. I had been there in the past, but this past trip it became one of my favorite spots. Love their blended mojitos and the Queen is great at multitasking as you posted earlier. Era Ora does have excellent food as does Byblos. The seafood dish from Las Cazueles looks yummy. Will have to try in May!! Ready to read more!!!

I believe it is in the same spot, yes, although this was our first time there. I remember Harris raving about it last year.

I think we were getting 2 for 1 drinks- it was soooo inexpensive to drink there- dangerous!

Sunday, December 5th

Luckily there were no hangovers today, but we were moving a little slowly. We scrapped plans for a road trip until the following day and told Harris and Paul we’d meet them up at Canibal Royal about noon-ish.
It was a picture perfect beach day. I let Brian sleep in while I whipped up a huge breakfast (the only one I’d bother cooking in our little makeshift studio kitchen). We feasted on scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, pico de gallo and croissants and then I walked it off for a while on the beach.

After lounging around a bit and checking email we hopped in the car and drove up to Canibal. Brian shouldn’t have listened to his navigator saying “turn here” on this street, though, and we did a little bushwacking on some bumpy roads before getting back on track. I know it’s around here somewhere!

I was psyched that after fooling around with the camera and charging it it worked fine today, but I missed the best photo op on this side road by not being fast enough, as I missed the man on the bicycle with the 3 foot long, 30lb. + fish chained to his handlebars. I even made Brian turn around but he was long gone up another road by the time we turned.

We really like Canibal Royal and settled in for a long afternoon of chiiling and munching and alternating the beer and water routine.

The truffle oil fries and edamame might seem like an odd match but they were sooooo good. We tried the Rock ‘n Roll Shrimp at one point which was okay but didn’t satisfy the way these other apps did.
The vibe here is cool and fun. Our waiter Luis was very attentive and the music was great.

We felt pure relaxation and we had a blast. Brian broke out the video camera and we took some footage from the rooftop deck. What great views from up there!

Harris and I went for a quick dip and I walked the beach a little bit. But mostly we just sat back and vegged. It was a bit more busy than we’d found it last year, but still not what I’d call crowded. I’d say it was a perfect Sunday afternoon.

And what would Sunday evening be without prime rib at Manne’s? I was looking forward to eating there that night, not only because I love Manne’s but because we were hoping to be joined by Rick, Sue, and Steve (Snappysammy). We told Harris and Paul we’d meet them over there about 7 and went home to regroup.

As wifi is only available in the lobby area at Fisherman’s I hung out there for a while but saw they were setting up for some big Mexican fiesta night. On that note, we’re outta here…. We lazily drove to the edge of Playacar and parked on a side street then walked through the plaza expecting to grab a drink at La Bodeguita del Medio. It was gone- I’d heard it was reopening up north somewhere although we never did end up checking that out. Disappointed one of our favorite neighborhood stops was gone and thinking we were a tad early for Manne’s we stopped for a quick drink on the swings at Pez Vela.

Of course that ended making us a few minutes late getting to Manne’s but there we found Harris, Paul and Steve patiently waiting, and saw Rick and Sue a couple minutes later. Everyone but Steve and Sue had prime rib and it was as good as I remembered if not a bit pricy at 250 pesos, but it was tasty, as were the margaritas and the shots (thanks, Rick!)...

Even better was the company, though. I was glad to have an opportunity to get to know Sue as we really didn’t have a chance to talk at the peep meet, and Steve hadn’t been around that night and I was looking forward to a few tall tales and tips for our later adventures. I found Sue to be spunky and inspirational with her brave fight against cancer and her move to Mexico. In fact I admire them all for their adventurous spirit and hope that someday we’ll join the ranks of the expats who have made Mexico their home. Thank Jah (or heaven or what have you) for this forum for bringing such a great bunch of peeps together! Anyway, the conversation wound down and we went straight home that night, after making a plan to meet Harris and Paul in Akumal the next day for snorkeling and then another diversion that I had up my sleeve.
