She tells people she is prettier when she is with me. That is either because I make her smile or because she looks so much better in comparison to me. I always like to have the intelligent proper-English speaking gal approve of my TR! |

Thanks buddy! Was so great to meet you a couple months ago after a couple years of talking online! I think we could hang out more often! Friday night. Just wait for Friday night. But I am not sure how much you will see.

Chapter 2 – Tuesday – I’m Too Sexy for Tulum We woke up at 9:30, wow nothing like 10 hours of sleep to start out vacation! We stumbled down the street to have breakfast at La Fragrata, as we have always wanted to eat here. However, it did not open until 10AM (odd), and the boss said we weren’t going to wait that long. So, we went to Vagabunda on the corner of 5th and 26th. Most breakfasts were in the range of 70-90 pesos, which sounds a bit pricey by Playa standards, until you consider that you get free OJ and coffee for that price (places like Nativo and Cueva Del Chango add those on). Very tasty, and I would go back. JimmyMN, Jan, and their friend Sarah joined us after a little bit and we made plans to head to a beach for the day. ![]() Our daughter was very sad that we were going on vacation and thus made us take her favorite Little Pet Shop figure with us. Nice towel animals at the Blue, we would tip the maid US $2 or 20 pesos per day. ![]() We returned to the hotel and had a lot chat with Luna Blue owner Tony. He wanted to know our itinerary for the week and to give us his tips and personal favorites as well. Great guy. We had initially planned to go to Xpu-Ha, but after chatting with Tony, we decided that Jimmy would show us El Paraiso beach instead in Tulum. Tony called it the most beautiful beach he has ever seen. We hopped a taxi to the collectivo stand (off calle 2 and between avenidas 10 and 15). Collectivos are great. Simply tell a driver where you are going, he will tell you which van to hop in, a few other people will hop in, and you are on your way. About an hour later, we arrived in Tulum, paid the driver 35 pesos per person, and we were off. We took a 45 peso taxi to El Paraiso. As cool as Tulum is, I don’t think I could vacation there as I would hate having to take taxis from the centro to the beach. I love that you can walk everywhere in Playa. JG walking to the beach ![]() We had a drink at the bar (30 peso beers, great price for a beach bar!) before settling in for a bit. ![]() ![]() TG and I sacked out on a couple loungers (50 pesos each, whereas a bed would have been 150 pesos and a rounded bed would have been 200 pesos) while the rest of them went for a walk. I ordered some nachos for TG and I for 75 pesos, and while waiting for them to be ready, I walked around taking some pics. The whole palm tree effect makes this an absolutely gorgeous beach. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Little bambino sacked out on one of the beach beds ![]() Hot chick on the beach ![]() Hot chick joined by the man who somehow snagged her ![]() Nachos are better with beer. Notice there are 2 limes with the Tecate Light. ![]() TG must have taken this, because I don’t take pics of birds. I can’t tell the difference between crows and hawks. ![]() One of the famous El Paraiso trees which would soon become a prop ![]() The others came back from a walk north, and Jimmy and Jan decided to go for another walk south. Sarah decided it would be a better decision to sit and drink beer with TG and I. Me gusta Sarah. ![]() We enjoyed watching this local play with his kids. ![]() I spy, with my little eye… a hot chick in the water ![]() Mmmmmmm ![]() She is either trying to look sexy or is annoyed at the pic… ![]() Okay, trying to look sexy (and succeeding) ![]() Climbing the tree for a sexy photo shoot ![]() Not your sexiest look, babe, but an awesome look nevertheless ![]() Getting into position ![]() ![]() ![]() There we go ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now these are some cool pics ![]() ![]() Jimmy said there was a small little beach bar just a few minutes walking to the north, so I needed to check it out ![]() ![]() Finally arrived at the bar. Just a tiny little bar where I could waste away a few days. ![]() ![]() JG, “What kind of beer do you have?” Bartender, “Sol.” JG, “I’ll have a Sol, por favor.” ![]() ![]() It’s so good, once it hits your lips. It’s so good. Notice the bartenders in the background carefully watching the professional beer drinker. I think they dig the fit-overs.

Walking back to the others. These are some boats. I bet you are glad I told you that.
![]() It seemed like every third person at El Paraiso was selling fruit. I love the way he is balancing it on his head. He is more talented than me. I am proud that I can walk and drink beer at the same time. ![]() Getting back to El Paraiso. This tree was much sexier 30 minutes ago. ![]() I see some people I like in the distance ![]() Whatever TG can do, I can do better ![]() Okay, maybe not ![]() In my dreams (or TG’s nightmares) ![]() ![]() Sarah, “Jan, do you really know this guy who humps trees and tries to make them look like his unit?” Jan, “I’ve never seen him before in my life. Jimmy just thinks his wife is hot, but bringing the guy along is part of the package.” ![]() I bet you are getting all hot and bothered taking these pics, aren’t you TG? ![]() ![]() I knew it! ![]() ![]() Maybe around 4 or 4:30, we decided to head over to Ziggy’s for drinks and dinner. Jimmy had called andreahouston, who informed us that Ziggy’s would have 2 for 1’s, e.g. 2 beers for 40 pesos. We could not pass up that opportunity. It was a 60 peso cab ride away. Jimmy took about 15 minutes to order this drink. He is high maintenance when ordering drinks. But I like him. A lot. But I don’t want to make out with him. I don’t dig facial hair. ![]() TG ordered this Shrimp Gratin for 230 pesos. ![]() I had a very tasty Cajun Chicken for 140 pesos. I don’t think this is it. But I am not very bright when it comes to food. ![]() After dinner, at one of the Ziggy’s bars ![]() ![]() Jan saw us standing outside the bathrooms and said it would be a great pic. She was right. ![]() TG suddenly looks pissed off. Maybe Jan said something about my palm tree. ![]() Come a little closer, baby ![]() No, I mean CLOSER ![]() No, I mean like this! Let’s make out! Let me pretend you are Ronnie from Manne’s. ![]() Comparing me to Ronnie was not sexy, big papa. ![]() Overall, Ziggy’s was nice and I am glad I saw it. But, if I go back, I’d probably just hang at El Paraiso until 5ish and then go back to Playa. We took a 70 peso cab back to the Tulum bus station and decided if a bus was leaving soon, we would take that (for added comfort and the ability to nap), but if not, the collectives were right across the street and we would just take them. There was one bus ticket window open, but we were 3rd in line, so we figured we would very quickly find out when the next bus was leaving. Well, after 10 minutes, the younger European couple at the front of the line hadn’t budged and appeared to be planning all of the bus trips for the rest of their life. If I had been a more appropriate person, I may have just quietly asked them if I could quickly inquire about when the next bus was leaving for Playa. But, I mentioned before that I sometimes say stupid things. So I loudly said, “YOU COULD PROBABLY WALK THERE FASTER.” For some stupid reason I didn’t think they spoke English, so I was saying it more for the amusement of my group and didn’t expect them to understand it. When they both turned around and the guy irritatedly asked, “Are you in a hurry?”, I deduced that they spoke English. I said, “Yeah”, and then he turned back toward the counter to continue booking his lifetime trip. His female companion continued staring at me, and I must say it was an impressively fierce stare. I wanted to ask her if I could take a picture, but I figured she may not be receptive to that. A few minutes later, after we were away from that couple, I realized my comment was quite inappropriate. So, if you two ever read this, I would just like to say that I am sorry. My guess is that you are still in line at the Tulum bus station, but I can’t make it down there right now to apologize in person. Anyway, Jimmy suggested we just take the collectivos back, and that was cheap and easy. I chatted up any random Mexican who got on. Most were not impressed. As the collectivo stop is close to Mom’s, and as Jimmy really wanted some of Juergen’s chicken fried chicken, we went to Mom’s for a drink. ![]() ![]() I will be honest. I really like Juergen. He shows great hospitality. But I think hanging out at Mom’s is okay, not great. I just don’t feel like I am in Mexico when I am there (I know, this is also coming from the guy who loves Manne’s). But, I know a lot of people like it, so don’t let just my opinion dissuade you from going there to check it out. TG and I just hung out for a beer and then walked back to the Blue around 8:15 to get cleaned up. Brent Parkin was playing that night, he plays a lot of blues, but I was most delighted when he played some Johnny Cash. Two of the first people who saw at the Luna Blue were GrosGlove and his girlfriend Echko. ![]() GrosGlove made quite a splash on our 2011 Running Thread when we saw his screen name, because I am know for another version of Gross Gloves. To make a long story short, I posted one day back in the 2009 Running Thread how I went for a 7 mile run, had to use the facilities mid-run, which were a swamp, and used my gloves to “clean-up”. Thus, the reason for this pic. ![]() January Guy and playawannabe (real name January) meeting for the first time. In January. How cool. I am not sure why I am wet. ![]() I had to by a shot for January and my bride. January e-mailed us the next day to say was sick. Hmmmm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Meeting Jacko for the first time. “Funny, JG. I had always envisioned you in pink.” ![]() Andy, “I will only let you take my pic as you promised to raise some money for the PPS on Friday night. Otherwise, I’d shove that camera where the sun don’t shine.” ![]() Someone bought a round of tequila shots. This is my TR so I think I should stick my big melon in the center of the pic. ![]() The man Brent Parkin. “I don’t care if you take my pic, as long as stuff something big in the tip bucket. Pesos, please.” ![]() The crowd at the end of the night after the music stopped. It was fun to meet Aussie Gary for the first time. ![]() I chatted with a lot of other Peeps this night, Sharon, Kathy, snappysammy, Rick, Sue, and more. Good time at the Blue as always! We decided to go the Dirty Martini for a nightcap. I had to get cash so Jimmy, Jan, Sarah, and John walked with TG while I run up 10th ave to the ScotiaBank. And a piece of 20 pesos pizza. Not bad.
![]() ![]() Here is John. TG and I really love John. He is on a very short list of Peeps who live in Playa that we make a point of hanging out with when we are down there. John and I are the defending champions of the Bomberos 3 legged tequila race. We will be defending our title on March 19th. Show up if you want to go head-to-head with the champs. ![]() The open windows in the DM are cool. John’s Mountain Dew shirt is also cool. It is cool that Jimmy is triple fisting. ![]() If that dude takes one more pic of me, I am going to let him have it. ![]() That’s it! ![]() He is still taking pics, so I’ll have to go with the double. ![]() TG, “Oh John, please don’t be mad at JG. The more pics he takes of you means the more he loves you.” John, “You are also kind of freakin’ me out, tequila chick.” ![]() TG, “Look, I made him smile!” ![]() TG, “Come here and give me a kiss.” John, “Why do I look like I am looking at your breasts?” ![]() John, “Whoops. I said breasts.” TG, “It is okay John. JG said he wants to make out with Ronnie. It is okay if you say breasts.” ![]() JG, “Do you think I will look cool if I tie this string around my head? Will it make me look more sober?” ![]() We haven’t had a shot in like an hour. That must be some sort of sin. ![]() Cheers! I love Jimmy’s smile in this pic. ![]() John, “It’s so good. Once it hits the lips. It’s so good.” JG, “Except that it is tequila, so it tastes like crap.” ![]() John, “I am one cool MF aren’t I?” ![]() John, don’t steal the tree please. ![]() I guess I better stop him. ![]() We got home sometime before 2.
