*BIG* Pictures and little words - Royal Playa del Carmen
So here's the deal... I have loads of pictures, and no time, so this trip report will be heavy on pictures and light on descriptions. That being said, if you have any questions, please ask me, and I'll answer!
This was our second trip to the Royal (first was during the swine flu season of 09), and we brought along our friends this time. We had perfect weather, and a perfect trip. It was a balmy 26 degrees (Fahrenheit) in Boston, and our early early morning flight was delayed by a couple hours. We got to see a cool sunrise, though. ![]() ![]() Our friends were in room 399 (closest OV room to the ocean) ![]() We were in 338, which was in a little building angled toward the ocean ![]() ![]() We went to Maria Maries for dinner (and apparently this is the only night we took pictures of the food?) ![]() We were very proud of J for finishing the whole giant t-bone ![]() ![]()

Great photos - we arrive in 71 days and getting more excited seeing these. We are from Methuen (30 min north of Boston) - how about you? The girl with the dark hair looks very familiar.
Logan looked beautiful with the sunrise - have yet to see one there as it is always dark when we depart or land |

Great photos!
![]() We love getting up early, grabbing some snacks at the 24-hour lounge, and then heading to the beach to watch the sunrise. One of the best parts of staying in an oceanfront room is having a room-service breakfast on the balcony while watching the sunrise. |

![]() this is from the Cigar Factory... I thought they were bats! but it's tobacco hanging from the ceiling ![]() ![]() ![]() This was Three Kings Day, and they had this big display of bread or something at the pool. These girls left their bread on their chair, and this bird took off with it! We were going to tell her when she came back, but we left before she did... I hope she didn't eat the rest of the bread! And if she did, and she happens to be reading this... sorry ![]() ![]() Caprese salad at Il Pescatore across the street: ![]() Big batch of fun photos coming up next... Tulum and Akumal, then wandering south down the beach. Thanks for all the compliments on the photos

That bread was a Three Kings Cake, traditionally there is a plastic baby somewhere in the cake and the person that gets it has to make the cake the next year!
At least that's what I've read! Great Pics, and I had a hunch about the Macaroni kids before I looked it up, verra funny! |

Up early again, this time for an excursion to Tulum and Akumal. If we had been just the two of us, we probably would have taken the Colectivo or a taxi to Akumal (we'd already been to Tulum last time) but we were with first-timers, so we booked a guided tour through Best Day, in the Royal lobby. They came and picked us up at 7:30, and it was us four and a family of 8 from Canada that were staying at GPR
![]() we stopped at one of the little Mayan cooperatives on the side of 307, and there was a cute dog and a donkey in the backyard ![]() then inside we all took shots (at 8 in the morning) of homemade almond tequila it was actually really good!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After Tulum we went to Akumal Beach Resort to go snorkeling and have lunch ![]() ![]() ![]() We didn't see any turtles but we did see quite a few different rays... I have some underwater pictures, but they're on another computer, so I'll add those later
