Viva Wyndham Resorts, Maya vs. Azteca
I'll appologize in advance if this has been asked a zillion times already. My Fiance' and I are getting married in Sept. 04' and will be coming to Playa on our honeymoon. We recieved a free 3 day 2 night stay at the Wyndham resorts from Royal Prestige Kitchenware and are a bit leary of things that are "FREE". Has any one else ever done this or atleast been to these places? How legit is the hotel with the free stay? Any info will be much appreciated. Oh I see that the Maya is right in between where we will also be staying next Feb. at the Riu. So it can't be all that bad eh? :-?

Viva Maya
We (2 adults & 15 year old) are staying at Viva Maya March 18-25. We chose the Viva resorts because of our budget and it seemed like a good value, good area. We chose Maya over Azteca because it is larger - 400 rooms as opposed to 250, I think and we heard that the food selection was bigger, which makes sense - more people more food. i also heard that there are more families/excitement at Maya and Azteca is quieter, which you may prefer on your honeymoon. You can see some reviews here:

Well, if someone offered me free nights at Azteca or Maya, I would take them in a flash!
We stayed at Azteca last spring break (two 40-something parents and a 13 year old and a 9 year old) and we LOVED it. The two resorts Azteca and Maya are easy to walk between (a block or so apart), and you can use the facilities at either one any time. Picking between them is a matter of personal preference; both are fine. We actually like a smaller place; it feels cozier or safer or something (easier to keep track of where the kids are) and we got to meet more people. (We like resorts where you meet other people - especially people with kids our kids' ages) There were mostly Italians and Germans there last spring, maybe 1/4 English speakers (those mostly Canadians, a few U.S.) I think that was the norm there - maybe this will change if Wyndham is markeing the resorts differently. They have only become Wyndhams in the last year. The grounds were clean, the pools and beach were lovely, and the food was fine. Maya more activities, more people doing stuff like dance lessons open air theater (better for a lovely night) larger and cooler (temperature-wise) buffet restaurant snazzier pool bar area archery available Azteca very laid back enclosed theater (better for a windy night) We are going back to the Azteca this spring break with our 14 year old and our 10 year old and we are all looking forward to it very much. One fun thing no one mentions - those little agoutis are really cute in the gardens in the courtyard. I know, I know, they're rodents - but we like them - they look like chubby guinea pigs the size of rabbits. They're shy but you often see them looking around or running behind the shrubs. (I think they are agoutis. aren't they?) http://www.wellingtonzoo.com/animals/animals/mammals/agouti.html |
