Anybody have recipes using La Unica Yucateca?
I bought a bag of La Unica Yucateca condiment at Dak's a few weeks ago. From looking at the ingredients, it appears to the Mexican equivalent to, say, a Thai curry paste. After an unsuccessful search of the great god Google, I thought I'd turn to this site which has proven useful in the past.
Any ideas? |

Hi, diogeron.
If I'm interpreting the label correctly the list of items on the label are suggestions for the types of Yucatecan dishes in which this condiment would be tasty. If you Google those items I believe you will find recipes. Taste it first and then you'll have to wing it as far as what ingredients you would leave out if you use it, I suppose. You are an adventurous person if you've bought this and I'll bet you can figure it out as you go. |

Sorry, no clue at all by looking at the label.
The powder inside looks like achiote, the one used to make Cochinita Pibil or Tikin Xik fish. but can't be sure. What I get in the label are many totally different dishes, and for example Relleno Negro should be made by toasting chiles to the point of making them black-negro, and that one does not include achiote in the recipe. Neither Escabeche Oriental, which is a marinade based on vinager, laurel, pepers, etc. I totally think it's the list of condiments they sell. |

list of ingredients...
OK, now I think I finally get it. I bet it is a list of the ingredients they sell, rather than a list of the contents of the package. It just didn't make any sense to me given how the paste looks. Now that I have that figured out, I think I know what to do to experiment with a few dishes. I'll also Google it as suggested. My Spanish is good enough to figure out the recipes, mas o menos.
Thanks for everybody's help. |
