same as it ever was not

O.K. then…this is the “same as it ever was not” trip as we are frequent visitors to Mexico…usually two or three times a year and at least once a year to the Playa del Carmen area but this time is a little different for us….we usually buy a package…but this time we bought airfare and then booked a hotel and we are going to just show up. We are…”sonofdob” (Dan) and my wife “mouse” (Mickey)…there will be others and their names will not be changed to protect anyone…be they innocent, guilty or otherwise. This is a new to me TR style…day by day or as close to that as I can manage…live from Playa daily report. Today is the day before departure day…we are at the Hilton Vancouver Airport resting up for a 07:30 departure from YVR. Well by resting up I mean that we left work early…went out for some dinner and drinks and are now at the hotel.
Here’s Mickey’s version of resting up at the hotel on the day before departure day…

…she gets it.

I on the other hand am searching on google for a method to open a nice bottle of Argentine Malbec that I selected for my day before departure day consumption. We have corkscrews everywhere…I mean everywhere…but somehow here I am without…I have opened them before without (which explains why we now have them everywhere) but I am looking for a method that will retain as much of the wine for drinking as possible. I found a nifty method demonstrated deftly by a drunken Frenchman whereas you place the bottle in the heel of your shoe and smash it against the wall…

Guy Can Open Wine Bottle With Shoe. Video

…I tried it and the cork never budged so I reverted to the old tried and true method…push the cork in…no that is not a metaphor. ..

…lost very little wine…just a few drops really. I will need to get several corkscrews when we arrive so as to prevent a repeat of this during our stay in Playa…one for the suite…one for the beach cooler…and one other for good measure.
Well then…I am three glasses into the Malbec and Mickey three chapters into her book so we’ll end the “day before departure day” installment of this “same as it ever was not” TR…sonofdob

Good start - can't wait to read the rest. I hear ya about the corkscrews - we have them everywhere - I keep one in my husbands toiletries bag so it is always with us when we travel. However - last time I traveled by myself I found myself without a corkscrew - guess I need to buy one more!

I think the shoe method of opening the wine only works if you are already drunk and in France. At dawn.

Thank you for sharing your vacation with us! I also love the day by day TRs.

My husband told me that he's gonna get the family together to have an intervention for me to separate me from my iPad and the Playa.info forums! yeah, right....!
